Veritas Log Scribe

I’m always on the hunt for THE perfect pencil scribe.  I’ve used the typical General scribe, the ACCUscribe, a half dozen Alvin’s...

I’m wondering if any of you have used the Veritas Log Scribe for other than Log construction?  It is pretty big physically and may get in the way from time to time, but it has features that others don’t.

I’m also interested in any suggestions. I’m sure I’ve not seen em all.

It's a serious scribe and has a price to match. I see it can double as
a compass which it would be handy to have one with that capacity.

I was introduced to the concept of a double bubble scribe by a log cabin builder for acurate transfer of saddle notch cuts.  I have only used mine for scribing a trim board to stone.  Usually, all I need is a smaller compass or a 1/4" piece of wood and a pencil.

[member=27471]w802h[/member] you own one?  Did you find that scribing a board onto stone was far easier with the Veritas?  Not often, but from time to time I find a need to scribe to stone. I can see this being handy.

I have always managed with a good pair of dividers or compasses for scribing to old beams or stone/brickwork. They seem to be a lot of money for what they are. This is not a knock against Veritas though, as I do own a couple of their tools...er maybe three...er five, no, no, six of their tools that are really good and a couple of them seemed a bit pricey at the time  [scratch chin]

Naildrivingman have you seen the latest (I think it’s a one timer) from woodpecker ?
Looks like a well built compass/scribe....two sizes but not a deticated/leveled/scribe like the Veritas
