Veritas Low Angle Block Plane - Handle

I just bought a new Veritas Low Angle Block Plane, a tall front knob and a large rear handle for the plane.

According to instructions by Veritas, the rear handle demands 2 threaded holes in the plane body, but there is no holes.
The missing holes make it impossible to mount the rear handle at the plane.

On the Veritas website, all 3 products are still displayed and there is a mounting guide - no comments on discontinued products.

Are there others with similar experiences?
Any suggestions for a solution?

Driving to the dealer is not a solution.
He lives 700 km away in another country.

Can you post a picture of the plane without the blade and cap? I had a handle mounted to mine for while makes it like a small LA smoother.

If there're no threaded holes, it's a defect. Get the plane exchanged by calling Customer Service (pre-paid return shipping label included in your purchase if you're in North America).

Hi Philip

Did you purchase the block plane from Lee Valley or from a local store in Denmark? If the latter, you may have received (very!) old stock. If from Lee Valley, notify them, and they are very likely to pay all shipping expenses.

The other thought is that you may not be pairing the handle with the correct block plane. They do have a few others. Check on this.

Regards from Perth

Derek

I live in Denmark, bought the plane from a dealer in Sweden
The back of the plane looks VERY different from other pictures posted here.

Yours doesn't look like the low angle block I have. Did you get the handle/knob and the plane from the same vendor? Check with it to see if it can exchange the right plane for you.

Yep, it turned out to be a Veritas standard block plane in the wrong packaging
Veritas has obviously had a problem with quality assurance of its packaging...
I think that is unfair to the dealers

Many thanks to FOG for guiding me in the right direction  [smile]
Big praise to the dealer - hyvlar.se - who discovered the problem and replaced the plane at no cost to me.

Consider buying an extra higher angle blade (38*, e.g.) so you can use your low angle block as a standard block plane when needed (for wild grain).
