Do you own a Veritas router plane? I just received a flyer from L.V. with an offer for the router plane owners.

Almost embarrassed to say it but I ordered one. I really like their shop apron due to the no saw dust in the pockets design and had that in my cart already so figured might as well add that for $31 US and they still have free shipping. It's nice enough and I have all the attachments and it fits everything. Plus saves me some time I suppose. Probably my cheapest LeeValley order ever.

Makes me feel like a lazy woodworker.

Based on my rough estimate, it'd take half a day to a day (stock preparation, sawing, dadoing, grooving, routing and boring) to make one.

Agreed Chuck. I'm also much more of a hand tool person. I use some power tools depending on the project but I love hand tools.

Get's me thinking, I could use one for my Stanley 45 and all it's cutters.....

I'm going to order one too. Currently I have my router plane and assortment of blades stuffed into a Mini-Systainer 3 (and I do mean stuffed)0. Heck, I might have to order the two smaller router planes just to fill in the box!

I had been planning to eventually build a hanging tool cabinet for all my hand tools. I could just carve out a space for this box in that.

A friendly suggestion for a quick fix: Add some rare earth magnets (1/2" dia.?) to your order too. Drill some blind holes (say, two per plane) on the floor, glue the magnets in place, and use them to keep the smaller router planes from sliding. Of course, you can rout recesses for them instead.

Thanks for the heads-up, Mario, and for the custom version Derek.  I have mine in a Really Useful Box that is not a very good fit, and the blades have to go in a second, smaller box that is actually a great fit.  Now that I've seen the possibilities, I'll have to do something that gives me a better solution for the plane, and maybe a better solution for the blades as well.

For those of you who have the box, how hard would it be to add a second blade/accessories holder on the other side of the box?  Seems like it should be easy enough.  Any reason not to glue the box together?

Also, seems like it would be easy enough to add a fitted floor for the other planes if you wanted to store them in the box as well.  Maybe half of the unused side for a plane (I only have two in the set, not all three) and the other half for more blades.

If so the blades are shorter and I would make a removable rack that would fit where the small plane sit on the picture.  [smile] I would also opt for [member=57948]ChuckM[/member] suggestion to put magnets to hold it in the box  [wink]

To glue or not to glue. I will definitively glue it as soon as I am satisfied with the fit.

No reason not to glue it....I can't see why anyone would want to break it down after assembly.

There should be lots of room to add another blade holder. Something as simple as a scrap of 1" x 2" with holes drilled in it can be easily glued to the side of the box. We designed it to hold full size router plane as well as the medium router plane, and blade roll....

Next up will be a similar box for the small plow plane .... with lots of blade storage too. The bottom plate reverses to accommodate the LH version...

The combo plane is kept in a bespoke box; the plow on a shelf. I can certainly use a box for the plow and its blades! [big grin]

I order the box on May 8. L.V. store is at 25 minutes drive and because there was a restriction and I couldn't cross any bridge to get to the store, I order online. May 18 and the package is in limbo.

I know it has to do partially because the current situation but come on. I am at 25 minutes drive, they sent it to Lachine QC, which is a 2hrs drive. Process to Ottawa, 3 minutes from me. Finally sent it back to Lachine QC with no delivery date. This happen only with UPS. Last year UPS made me pay a $67 duty+taxes in advance. Soon as they get the payment, they sent it back to the sender because there was a missing packing slip  [eek]

Everyone who do hand work to some level should have a router plane like Veritas’.

It is fun, pleasing, efficient, aesthetic and worthy any woodworker.
After stumbling over it at LV and later in here, I was very lucky to be gifted a set from my gf that came in the box mentioned here. A lovely piece of kit that’ll stay with me.
Having little time other than experimenting with it for a while an occasion came yesterday.
I needed a shelf, and found a cut off oak slab that fit the purpose. Unfortunately it had developed a crack, but otherwise flat and straight. A perfect opportunity to use the plane for a butterfly.

Apart from squaring the raw edge piece on the CS 50 using the slider, it’s left ready for routing edge profile(s) and sanding.

I had looked at buying one a couple of months ago, but I think it was out of stock until July 2021 (which is now!).  I just checked and now it's out of stock until November 30, 2021.  I think I need to learn to be more patient and order when I have the first inclination to buy.  My hesitancy/reluctance to buy has bit me many times before.

If you do not use a flat bottom blade to cut dados on the table saw, the router plane is the perfect tool to clean any defect. Fast and easy to setup, I love it. I have the medium and large one

Back in the late sixties early & seventies when I was in junior & senior high school, we were taught to use a router plane to clean out all dados. Cut each side of the dado with a saw blade, then cleaned out the center with a router plane. I have 2 Veritas router planes in my shop that I use often.
