Very cheap but very effective flattening stone.

My Sigma 6000 stone is starting to show a slight hollow so I thought to myself: "What's the cheapest flattening stone available?" The answer is a Skandia whetstone. Skandia is Bahco's cheap little brother and I bought it for €6 ;D The size is 125x50x25 mm which is more than enough to flatten a waterstone. The orange side is 120 grit and the white side 280 grit. I took a small diamond coated rod and made some diagonal grooves in it so it doesn't stick to the waterstone and it also helps in the removal of slurry. It's a very hard stone so it will probably never go out of flat using it only to flatten a waterstone.

How flat is this stone?

Personally, I would rather rely on a decent coarse diamond stone - which will never need dressing.

I lapped it dead flat. And I also noticed something interesting. The white side does a great job on my Sigma 6000 and the orange side on my Sigma 1200. The other way around is less effective.

I lapped it on a piece of left over granite I got from a local stone mason and I bought it at Karwei (loosely translates to "job") for €6. Karwei a Dutch chain of hardware stores.
