It started as a commemoration for the War to End All Wars and to honor those who died in that war. Many approaches to warfare changed in that war and there are very few of those veterans left. England created a display of poppies, one for each English soldier who died, the 9,000th one was add this morning.
There are still many soldiers fighting for many countries from many countries to whom we all owe a lot to.
In the US there are many woodworking stores that are turning pens for the troops or supporting the Wounded Project.
Many woodworking stores sell shadow boxes for mementos. pen or pencil kits with a military symbol, and burial flag display cases. So if you know a soldier or vet, make a pen or a shadow box for them or ask then to help you with the project. If you know a family of a deceased vet, make a display case for the surviving family for the flag that draped their loved one's casket.
From one who severed and is thankful to those who continue to serve.
