I want to get some feedback on video editing programs people are using, preferably free or user friendly.

I recorded a video using my samsung camcorder and tried to edit, but not having much luck.  I tried windows movie maker and intellistudio.  I have a couple of errors that I want to remove and also take away some of the dead space to reduce the length of the video but can't figure it out.

In the last video I did, I used my iPad and using I movie worked great, but since I don't have a suitable way to hold the iPad I used my camcorder and tripod.  Has anyone taken a video on your PC put into iTunes and then used iMovie for editing?

Actually, I meant to mention it in the other thread and YouTube does have basic online editing tools for videos.

Here are some freeware options...

VideoPad Video Editor Professional

VSDC Free Video Editor

CyberLink PowerDirector

Do you have any experience with any of these programs Shane?

iMovie is only for Mac or iPhone/Pad.

But Windows Movie Maker is actually pretty good. What difficulties are you having with it? Move the playhead to cut sections from the video and press M to split the clip where you want the edits to be. Then delete the segments you don't want.

I use a number of programs for different tasks: Windows Movie Maker (WMM), iMovie on a Mac and an iPad, Sony Vegas and Camtasia. Camtasia is probably my favourite but is really for editing screencasts.

For free I'd stick with WMM - check out the help or ask here and I can advise.

This 1st one is nice for simple task like cutting, resizing ... Avidemux

This 2nd one LightWorks is probably one of the most powerful video editor, notably to combine multiple video takes in one (multi-cam. Think of viewing several musicians playing together, each in a window). It has been used to make several renowned movies. The pro version isn't too expensive, and the free version offers all the pro features, except that it can only output mp4 720p.

So I messed around with movie maker and got the video reduced in size, added some text, took out some of the garbage and that leads me to a question.  After I split and deleted the parts I didn't want, there is a noticeable pause or break, how do I get the clips to flow without a gap.  I think the technical term is overlay the clips?  Also the trim tool is something I just can't seem to grasp at the moment, so hopefully that isn't the answer.
