If you'll be taking delivery of the new CMS Router Table in just a few short weeks, this video will help you get up and running quickly. It goes through the process of setting it up out of the box and then calibrating all of the components. If you hve questions, feel free to post them.

Yes Shane I have a question and it's something that perplexes me. Why are the fence squaring and parallel adjustments systematically ignored on on this forum - except for Tom Bellamere no-one seems to think the adjustments of any importance. It's a great video with the alignment adjustment  shown for the sliding table and the extension table but not the fence? Maybe it's just  me [embarassed]

Nigel,

I saw your post, and I went back and checked my fence. My fence was calibrated correctly but I appreciated your post anyway. I think the deafening silence is because most people haven't got their hands on a CMS yet to try it out.

Shane, I have never heard the small fence (referred to in the UK manual as the curved guard) referred to as an "Auxiliary Dust hood." Doesn't make sense to me to describe it like that as it completely ignores its primary purpose which is for curved or cambered work.

Good video apart from that though.  :)

Side question, are the CMS parts going to be available separately? I need a new centring ring for the OF1400. I think the part number is 473809 or 473810- I am unsure which is for the OF1400 and which is for the 1010 but I need the 1400.

Thanks.

Richard,

OK thanks for that. My fence was miles out - suppose that's why I keep harping on about it  [smile]

My Rep's fence needed very minor adjustments both ways. It was slightly off from the factory. I should get mine later this week and I'll try to remember to report its state.

Nigel, there are other videos on the works. This video is already ~12 mins long. It's fully possible to adjust the fence for square and parallel quite easily. We understand the complexity of this tool compared to some of our others and will be producing content, both and written, to assist customers with getting it fully dialed in. But, I think most people will find that the fence is pretty well adjusted right out of the box.

I don't name the products, but I'll pass along the feedback. Maybe it should be called the swervex-chamfer-ma-thingy.  [big grin]

CMS components will not be available separately. So, if you wanted the CMS without the router module, that won't happen.

Spare parts should be available. So, rings, centering mandrels, etc. Yes.

Looks like a VERY sexy router table!

A few things I find a bit alarming, and it's likely because I haven't seen an in-person demo yet, but here goes:
1. Is there no above-the-table bit changes? This is an almost universal feature among top-end router plates, is this simply a feature that got missed in the video? Gotta say this alone would be a deal breaker for me, I don't want to have to get down on my hands and knees or disassemble the table every time I want to swap a bit......
2. Is there some accommodation for a sacrificial fence (MDF)?
3. Does it take standard bushings?

Also, from a field-carpenter's perspective, I'm very curious to find out the setup and take down time, as I rarely have the luxury of setting up my tools for more than a single working day at any one customer's house.

I do like that it is the same height as the MFT/3, and has great accessories for out-feed and miter fence.

Again, for the right applications it looks like a spectacularly engineered and very sexy table, but if there is no above-the-table bit changes I would be hard-pressed to trade out my little Bench Dog portable table I have fitted with a router plate that allows for above the table bit changes and height adjustment. http://www.benchdog.com/protopcontractor.cfm

Keep up the great work Festool, I hope that perhaps with the TS55R the UL issues have been addressed that we can get a CMS TS insert for the NA market?......  [big grin]

Hey Tom,

Here is a thread that can answer many of your questions:  http://festoolownersgroup.com/festool-tools-accessories/consolidated-qa-for-cms-router-table/ but I will try to answer most based on my understanding from reading here - i.e.  I don't have a CMS.

1.  Above table bit changes? - Yes.  Maybe no based on the size of the bit.  But if no, 2 quarter turn screws allows the module to come out.  Don't need to stoop and do under the table.

2.  Sacrificial Fence - The fences do have T-slots that will fit the Festool clamps that could be used to create custom sacrificial fences.

3.  Bushings - No based on my understanding unless they are tall enough to clear the mounting surface.

Regarding a TS saw module of any kind here - I am not speaking for Festool here at all, but with all the legislation in place or pending about table saws and preventative measures - I doubt it.

The CMS is ultra-slick in my book.  Unfortunately, it's not on my radar screen until I can use it with my OF2200.  And if that is not to be, it looks like I'll be building up a non-Festool router table for the bigger jobs that require 3" diameter bits and the like.  Sure do wish I could use the CMS with the OF2200, though.

[sad]

Thank you VERY much for the quick respone Peter! Like many Festool tools I'm sure that things will be a bit different than what I am accustomed to and will take some adjusting. I am greatly heartened to hear that, at least with some bits I will be able to change them from above the table. Like I say, it looks like a fantastic table, I can't wait to see Danny Hale with one at the 7 Corners show in September. Thanks again for the speedy response, hope everybody is having a great week!

I was under the impression it does work with the of2200, it just isn't "technically" approved.
