VIKA Twofold Workbench/Scaffold

Has anyone else used the Vika Twofold table?  I picked up a couple a few weeks ago, and they are great.  My intention was to replace the sawhorses that I use for my sheet-goods breakdown setup.  They have proven much more functional.  At $99, they are well worth the investment.

They are almost exactly the same height as the MFT1080, so they are perfect for additional support.  At 1/3 the weight of an MFT, it is extremely mobile.

While I wouldn't give up my MFTs, these tables are a great compliment to my setup.

I have had a couple on order from Northern for quite some time now. When I Googled the item, I come up with several legal type documents that are confusing and make it look like they got into trouble for "dumping" at below cost pricing. So, maybe they will never be available? Seems like a nice product that would help me out. Sadly I have no Costco anywhere nearby.

I picked one up from costco up here in winnipeg and I also see woodcraft has it listed in there catalogue as a new item. It seems to be well made and sturdy my only complaint is the arms used for bracing the legs have a locking button that is hard to push in  and doesn't lock on to the leg very well other than this miner thing I think it will be a welcome addition to the workshop.

Heavier than I thought it would be!! Think the shipping weight was 44#. Not sure of exact weight but kind of heavy and with the leg braces hooked up is far more solid than I thought it would be.

To All Vika owners.......

a few questions,

1. how easy is it to replace the mdf  table top?

2. if you remove the tool tray can one extend a mdf top to cover that area?

3. it's hard to tell from the video, but if you were to place a straight edge over the length of the top extending over the end caps.......
    what is the difference in height of the end cap and the top of the mdf top.........or is it a flush level?

4. each leg extends incrementally, by going into stops along the way? what is each increment measurement (approx)?

5. on that note what is the measurement from floor to top of mdf surface in the short position and the extended position?
     ok 22" & 32" (i just watched the video again........to the end )
        .

I have been thinking along the same lines. I am thinking of replacing the top on one of mine to create a "mini-MFT".  You couldn't use the clamps unless you removed the plastic mess on the other side, but it would work great with the clamping elements.

Below are the answers to your questions.

1 - I haven't removed to top, but it looks to be just a rectangular piece of 1/2" mdf held on by 8 bolts.

2 - I can't tell for certain, but the braces and rail for the top and tool tray share a common rail.  You should be able to remove the tray and put a full length MDF top.  The tool tray doesn't just pop out.  It is held in place with screws from underneath.

3 - Without going out and checking, I think the top is about 1/8" above the molding for the end caps.  If I replace the top and remove the tray, I will probably put 3/4" or 1" MDF instead of the 1/2".  That would give you additional clearance.

4 - There are only two stops on the legs.  One for the scaffold setting, the other extends the legs for the bench setting.

When you put the braces on, it is incredibly stable.  I have no issues hand-planing on it.  The braces are a little awkward, but they work very well.

.....also, one more thought, if you remove the orange mesh on the other side would you speculate that that would diminish the stability of the overall table?
(if one would punch holes in the top for use of the Fest-clamps or if by some chance a 1080 mft top split in two along the length would work)

Each leg is set individually, but mine only has two stops and they are about 10" apart.  You could drill others if needed.

I don't think removing the orange mesh would impact the stability much.  If it did, you could probably put a small triangle in each corner to stiffen it back up.  For me, the scaffold has come in handy several times already,

A 1080 MFT top should work, but you wouldn't be able to get two out of it.  I may have to call my Woodcraft and see if they have one in stock.
