THE LOTTERY IS ON FOLKS; Q&A ARE IN THIS THREAD AND SIGNING UP IS EASY AS CAN BE, LINK HERE:

Hi All,
as some might know I have a Walko workbench, which sadly doesn't see any use as:

a) I don't have a shop to set it up in
b) the shop where I do my stuff is crammed already
c) the apartment renovations do get by with the smaller MFT + support stand
d) one MFT800 is already tucked in at home and would be jealous to see the Walko Walk in. As would my fiancee.

As it stands today the bench is like new and it is lodged deep down in the basement which we are supposed to clean out this spring and build some storage solution for all the other stuff that we have in abundance. It does come with the MDF tops, unused, and three supporting struts. The bench is a great piece of equipment though it doesn't fit into the current work flow and I am not as diverse with projects that I foresee any substantial use for it for the coming year or two.  :(

The point is: I am willing to part with the Walko, for fear of it not being put to good use. I was playing with the idea that if we put together a lottery, organized perhaps by the Dominator and not by me. I could part with it, no money asked but if possible I would like to have my shipping expense taken care of, I live in Sweden, across the pond which adds slightly to the shipping expense though I can't imagine it would be prohibitively expensive as the Walkos are shipped from the Netherlands anyway.

How we could work this out is up to discussion but perhaps if enough Forum members joined the lottery (or why not call it Tombola? Sounds way cooler!) on a basis of paying a (has to be small) fee on entering with your "Domino" in the Dominator. If there wouldn't be enough people willing to enter for say $5-10 I could perhaps fork out for the rest to meet shipping expenses. If quite a few people entered the admission would be very small I guess. So it is all up to how many would be interested. There would be more money in it for me (as opposed to no money ;) ) if I simply sold it but I would think it would be more fun this way.

Or we could enter it in one of the Projects, as with the Festool-of-the-month give aways?

Or, perhaps we could scrap the whole idea, start a little fundraising to meet the shipping expenses to have it sent off to Tinker, who I know would like one to play with. I would pay my share.
;D

Any takes? Any takers?
/ Henrik

It must be the flu that is reminding me of my mortality, remember I am writing this under inFLUence... ...hahahah... cough cough.

Anyway, I am serious about this proposition and whatever the outcome I will submit the Walko Workbench to help keeping the Forum alive with a little happening every now and then.

I voted for admission based Dominator lottery.

Hendrik, I suggest that you should get a quote for shipping this to North America so that we have some idea about the amount of money that needs to be raised.

Another problem will be working out some way to collect the money,  I refuse to use Paypal, so that is the only way of collecting, I'm out.

I would not use PayPal either (I don't even know how it works).

As for collecting the money I am not sure how it works out best. Best for me would be if someone else did it, perhaps someone trustworthy based in the US and willing to organize. I would actually prefer not to be involved other than providing the Walko Workbench.

Admission for the lottery would ONLY be to make ends meet for the shipping, it is not meant to exceed shipping and if it did I wouldn't want that money but leave it for the person handling the lottery or make it a donation to the forum.

I don't have a sweet deal with any carrier, DHL or UPS or equivalent but there must be a way to wrap it up and have it sent off without costing a fortune. It folds down nicely and the add-ons fit would fit without increasing parcel size.

I'll leave this out on the forum and whatever we can make out of it we'll take it from there.

It is this version that is being offered:

...plus the MDF-tops with holes that are compatible with MFT accessories. See checked boxes on the parcel picture on top.

Hey Henrik,
I really like that last choice  ::)  I hope you did not bite your tongue on that.
i like the pic of it as holding up the shelfs.  a very substantial support.  I'm sure my dearly beloved would just love something like that in the living room.

actually, I would be in same boat as you.  If I were still doing site work, i would find a use.  No longer doing that.
It would actually sit in a dark corner away from traffic.

I am like Frank in that i would not pay thru pay pal.

I will watch to see how it is resolved.  You have a good idea, but I would really hope you could atleast break even on a purchase that did not work out as you had hoped.

Henrik

I think that is outstanding both in offering and in ideas about how to handle something like this.  Very generous!  By the way, I have been to Sweden and it is a gorgeous country.  The energy there is outstanding and it is so colorful!  I visited the Vassar? museum.  That was fascinating!

Thanks Tinker, that last option was an honest option. Now, I knew that you would only have limited use for it so I knew you wouldn't be heart broken that I didn't make it the only option.  :)

I don't worry so much about break even when it comes to a single purchase.
Sure, it was expensive but it has been paid for and sometimes you get some free lunches along the way so all in all I am just hoping it would find a good home.

I got so much surplus material handed to me on a job not so long ago (that was paid for by some one else) that it will allow me to build a few speaker cabinets, build a storage solution for the basement and maybe even enough to do some acoustic treatment in the living room - and it was all delivered to me after the job was done. I even got help carrying it in. So, considering how generous people are at times I feel I can bite the bullet on the Walko.

I am currently looking at shipping options, I think there is a reasonable carrier that I can find that will meet the criteria. I am still down with the flu so I don't have the energy to track one down this very instant though.

We could either have the Walko delivered to the person administering the Lottery or have it sent off when a winner is declared.
The latter options saves up on one transport.

Barry; thank you.  :)

The Vasa museum? With our famous gigantic battleship (built with a Swedish variety of the Imperial, called verks-tum (works-inches roughly). What happened to the Vasa? ehrrrm. She sank, pretty much straight after being launched, in the year 1628.  :o

They felled over a thousand oak trees but there were no calculations on stability and since it was so tall and many of the big guns were placed high up she started rocking and when the guns ripped loose she listed heavily then took in water and sank.

It is an amazing ship though, spent 333 years at the bottom before being lifted. Most of the guns were salvaged in 1664 already though, which must have been quite a feat at the time. (64 guns on the ship)

Anyway, that's me being Offtopic in my own thread...  ;D

Henrik, You are really a great guy.  I like the way you think and talk.
If i am ever in Sweeden, i will want to look you up.
My very best wishes to you and your financ... er, fiance on your up coming wedding whenever that will be.
my daughter married a Dane a few years ago and she and her hubby financed a trip for my wife and I to visit his family in Denmark. We were there in july and covered much of the country from south to north.  It was quite an experience to visit the northern most tip where the Baltic meets the North Sea.  I have a picture of her father in law, a retired admiral from the Danish navy, silloetted as he gazes out over the waters.  you can actually see in the photo where the tide currents come together causing a rip tide between the two seas.

It was also a new experience for my wife and I to see daylite at midnite.  Not the entire sky, but a thin rim of daylite off to the extreme northern horizon.  How far north are you?

Henrik,

What a generous offer.  I knwo someone who handles trans oceanic shipments and will shoot him an email to ask advice.  If I can be of assistance in this whole process just let me know.

Peter

What an offer!!!  I suggest getting the money up front, prior to determining the winner.  People will be less inclined to pay if they don't win.  Also, in addition to just splitting the shipping cost you should also get some money for this, IMO.

Im my enthusiasm over thinking I had the chance at winning a Walko, I forgot to thatnk you for the generous offer Hendrik.  Thanks Hedrik!

This was certainly a generous offer Henrik!

I am sure we are a lot of people drooling over an opportunity to win that Walko. I think an admission based lottery would be the way to go (even though I did, by mistake check another option, but too late to change i guess?).

Anyway, if I would win, there will be no shipping costs, as I would drive straight to Stockholm and carry it out of your basement:=) It will be of nice use in my 17m2 (180 square feet) student's apartment, already fillied to 2/3 with festools, a table saw and some other tools:)

I would be in on an admission based drawing. From what I have heard DHL is a good shipping company. Outside the U.S. anyway. A big thanks to you Hendrick. Hope you get to feeling better too.

I first voted for admissions based lottery but reading the threads about non-Paypal logistics make me think that free lottery, with the winner paying the shipping sounds easier.  This is a very generous offer, Henrik.  Many thanks.
Robby Robertson,  Does DHL still ship to the US?

Tinker: you would be most welcome if you ever had your way around Stockholm, where I am based.
It is not so far north, around the same latitude as New York. My parents come from way up north though, well above the arctic circle and I have seen my fair share of the Northern lights and midnight sun (sun doesn't set for three weeks up where we used to go).

Peter Halle, and others; any help with assessing shipping options is most welcome.
Daniel_N: if you would be the lyckliga hunden (lucky dog) then there is Coffee included in the win.

Stoolman: I think DHL services the US, I am not too sure though.

Steve-CO; no, honestly, I am fine with donating it, the hassle of collecting small sums of money outweighs the benefit and if I had wanted to get rid of the table fast I would have sold it.  :)

Frank Pellow: welcome.

At this point I think I will look into actual shipping costs. When shipping costs are estimated we can get more bogged down to the details of how to perform the draw - the Dominator might be up for it?  And who will perform it for us.

When the "rules" (if any) are established I will start a new thread on how to sign up for the draw. The option of "the winner pays the shipping" is the most convenient as it would be a person to person shipping arrangement but it all boils down to shipping costs and if anyone knows of a good way to have it sent do let me know! If we go the way the poll is looking we will have to have some  one arrange for collecting the admission, which is going to be a few (five to ten) dollars if there are some 40 people on the forum who would like to be in on it. I think overseas Forum members would be equally welcome to participate though sending five dollars to a person might end up costing more than that on top. Suggestions?

I thought that I should mention some other costs that might be involved here.

First of all, when an item is imported into another country, there are often duties and other fees that governments want to collect, even on used items.

Another thing to look out for are the border crossing handing fees charged by some carriers.  For example both Feb Ex and UPS are notorious for their exorbitant fees that they charge when shipping items from the USA into Canada.  Many Canadains (including me) refuse to use these companies because of this gouging.

I sell to Canada all the time 48" x 48" 100 lb boxes and I never had a complaint from anyone in Canada about the shipping with UPS.
I also sell to Norway, Spain, Germany and many other countries and never had anyone complain about excessive charges they were not prepared to pay in the first place. It is NOT UPS and Fed Ex, but the country that imposes these fees as a VAT. I use Fed Ex and UPS everyday it is integral to my business and never had an out of country client even blink. I am sorry you have had issues that is not the norm in my everyday experience.

I have no idea what gouging you are referring too.

This is FREE, all taxes shipping and whatever should be paid by the winner with a smile. I would gladly pay 200.00 US and would feel way ahead of the game for the Walko.

Thanks Henrik !!

You now what Frank I may be an A-hole but you do not want to use paypal and now you do not want to use UPS or Fed Ex? Can you make it any harder to get this free item? I mean come on this item is free after all.

I would help pay the shipping(Kick in 25.00 or 50.00) if it went to Tinker or I could put up a listing on my web site for 5.00 or 10.00 each for a drawing.

After a week the winner can be drawn and I would pay for the shipping(and take care if it through my shipping business account) to the winner and then give Matthew the surplus for the forum. Then the winner need not even know any of the shipping costs involved.

My site uses Google for processing not paypal and any credit/debit card can be used.

Just a thought.
