My oldest son wanted to surprise his wife with some floating shelves. They have old barn wood beams in their dining room, and he wanted something that would come close to matching. I suggested unfinished walnut. He wanted them to look like solid pieces with no joints showing, so we mitered all edges except those against the wall, and joined the faces to the tops and bottoms with 5mm dominoes. The end pieces were mitered and were glued/taped to set into the mitered ends of the boxes. They are 36 inches long, and the faces are 4.5 inches high. They are mounted with French cleats. After sanding with the RO125 to 220, applied 3 coats of Johnson’s paste wax.
