Hello all,
I have a small built-in bookcase that I completed about 1.5 years ago. I never finished the top. Originally I had planned on creating a template and having
a granite top. Well, that has not been completed. I've been bored so I glued up some Poplar and created the top with round-over edges.
I finished it with Watco's Danish Oil, three coats. I know it is not "true" Danish oil as it has varnish etc blended in or what not. That's not the issue. I love the way it
brought out the grain in the wood.
It dried for a week. Then I sprayed it with Deft Gloss Brushing Lacquer. Thinned at first (70/30, 50/50, 30/70 thinner to lacquer ratio) up to my last coat number five, I want
to add more coats.
Is this alright to do. I've never lacquered or stained anything before. I have now found in forums that Lacquer can't be used over "oils". I am pretty sure
the Watco was dried up after the week of sitting. Will there be issues in the future with hazing, cracking or ???
Any experience on what may occur to the finish. Any suggestions on another step in my process that should be added? Will the lacquer be a durable finish
for the top? The wife has her "stuff" she likes to put on top (picture frames, bowls with things in them etc.).
Thank you.
