Long story, but the short version is I was taking the plunge on my first festools, ordered a bunch from amazon. The supplier for them ran out of stock I guess on the 75 saw, sent me a note I could cancel, no worries.  In the mean time I had quite a few things already coming from amazon, and they started showing up. (all accessories to the saw I could not get  DERP    The products came, minimally packed, but arrived okay (except for my 106 rail,, another story)  Anyway I called Mr. Marino and he said he had a 75 in stock and sure he would love to sell it to me. Very Polite, good guy to talk to on the phone. The Saw and the 75" track came yesterday and the packing was awesome. First festool that I received that looked like anyone cared if I got it in one piece.  (I should mention I am an owner of another business besides carpentry (miata car parts sales on Ebay), and I am the shipping clerk, I ship 500 packages annually so I guess I am a professional at that as well as carpentry lol.  I appreciated the effort and care given, and that alone will make me look up Bobs site before any others.

given your job packaging , im sure you  understand how little it takes to package something so that it has the best chance of getting to the customer intact. im sure there is only 1-2 dollar cost involved in packaging something like that properly.

i once recieved a a package (bit of an exageration)
it was a bosch tile dock. its strong plastic but is packaged (for sale in shops) in a card sleave
the only addition to that was a shipping label and one strip of tape to stop the sleave falling off

Amazon is really good at packing OR it's really poor @ packing , no real middle ground there . But Amazon will replace anything busted but it's a P I A
Even Woodcraft has packaging issues (poorly packed Bessey 40" clamps , busted handle )
So seeing how Festools are price controlled any way & many on-line Festool dealers now Free ship
(add in that Amazon now collect California sales taxes ) I've been buying the big ticket smaller tool  items from the website dealers .
Something large like a chopsaw , router table  due to size I get from a local Festool dealer B&M & bite the bullet on sales tax Tracksaw guides as well due the high damage % that UPS will do to long thin AL items .
My dominio came from a NYC B&M free shipping no sales tax .
So I guess I'm saying mix it up ,
BUT the dealers do stand behind the tools with service front & center

I bought a number of tools during the latest reconditioned sale and the TS75's guide rail was dropped shipped from Festool in just it's basic box.  The end of the box was crumpled, but luckily, the rail wasn't damaged.  I had decided that I would have to travel the +60miles to the nearest festool dealer to buy my next guide rail.  But after seeing the care that Bob took when packing the Workshop Cleaning set I bought directly from him, I'm sure it would be safe to have him ship guide rails.  I'd check with him before I ordered an FS3000 though.  I'm not sure if they would even fit in the local delivery trucks.  [eek]

Yep,  I  bought the right side foot rest/computer mount for a 1.6.  That was the only rust I have ever found on my 90 track car.  Apparently had a heater core go and not get cleaned up.

Thanks all for the kind words. I believe in overpacking, plain and simple.
Better for the customer, better for me; it's money well spent and false economy to scrimp on.
Just makes for a better purchasing experience.
Regarding the 3000 m rail -  it's too long for UPS to ship, so goes truck freight.
