Went on a little road trip today to Toledo, Ohio for a hunting trip.

What was I hunting? Well, old cast iron wood working machinery.

I bought an Oliver 144-8D, 8" jointer and much to my surprise, as I thought it was already sold, a 18" Delta Wedge bed planer.

The jointer fence is in the back of my truck.

I'll admit it.. I'm jealous!
Nice purchase, that planer looks to be a quality machine. I would love to find one like that someday.
Congrats [big grin]

How heavy is that planer? lol, at least you didn't have to put it in the back of a pickup.

I would venture to guess it is close to 1000 pounds.  I got the manual with it as well, I bet it lists the weight in there.

The Oliver jointer was a cake walk to load, the planer, not so much.

I have that same planer, got mine about 18 years ago paid a hole 200 bucks for it. Very heavy. Shop is smaller now and dont have much space to use it. Had to switch from 3 phase to 220.  Went from 5 hp to 2 hp.  With origanal moter it would take off 1/4 material at 18 " wide.

It has a 5hp 3ph dayton on it now.

It has had a couple things altered but, it is 95% complete.

The Oliver is all there.

Mine has 2 motors, seprate motor for the feed. It has a varible speed on the feed but mine was broke when i got it so i cant change the feed, wish i could would help when planning cherry. Have to take off very little at a time.

He did about the same thing.  He did not need the VS so he sized the pulley for the speed he wanted, which is a little on the low side but, he built furniture.

The 2hp motor isnt enough power, i stall it out somtimes. I also got a big dust collector with it but never did use it, i think it had a 7hp 3phase on it. and stood about 10 ft. tall.

Yeah, I am working on the DC now.  To tide me over I will have to get a bigger dust pan.
