What aren't Systainer fittings symmetrical ?

It drives me crazy that my Systainers only fit on top of each other in one orientation.

Is there a good reason for this, or is this just oversight that can no longer be fixed without breaking compatibility ? I, like the poster in another thread ( http://festoolownersgroup.com/festool-wish-list/reversible-systainer-mount-on-cts/) want to work with my CT in a particular location - which has the front of my Systainers facing away from me.

I think it's something you have to live with, the clips could not be symmetrical for practical reasons because you would need them to be either on the back and front, or on the sides.
When they are on the sides it's very unpractical to open the old systainer, and on the rear it would be impossible because of the lid.
They could however have added clips on the bottom of the systainers all around, but it would be kind of overkill just for this problem, it would be better to adapt the vacsin some way.

This won't help with the reverse Systainer problem, but it should be noted that Sortainer drawers can be inserted from either side of the unit. So if a Sortainer is placed on a CT the drawers are reversable.

This is a really excellent point!  I *might be* getting a work center for Xmas, and I only plan to keep a sortainer or two together with it on my CT22.  Directionally the drawers will work better on the opposite side, so this is a very useful reminder!

Seth,

Great idea! The way I have my ct set up, it would otherwise force sortainers/systainers to be backward also. I have the ultimate DD on top of the hose garage. I tried to stack two four-drawer sortainers under it, but the 50mm hose section wasn't quite long enough. It does, however, work quite well with just one four-drawer under it. The ultimate DD does not seem to be perfectly compatible with the latches, but it works well enough. There is no interference with the boom arm, or the tool hangers. Thanks again for the tip!

Great tip, Seth.  That alone was worth visiting FOG today.

NuggyBuggy,

This may not help you either, but I've found that I can sit Systainers on my CT26 backwards, unclipped and they sit there happily until I want to move the CT.
