What best to go over cabinet doors?

Wife decided to use General's gel stain on old oak cabinet doors. What should be used to keep them looking pretty?  I was thinking spray shellac, but am afraid it isn't that durable for kitchen cabinets.

I prefer to do "quick and easy" on this if I can. Thanks in advance all!

If you liked the General Gel Stain they also make a gel varnish version.

Polyurethane. General makes a good one, easier to spray than to brush.
There are other coatings to use but polyurethane is easy to get, use and is very tough.
