What do you use your jigsaw for ?

I use my cordless Carvex whilst installing new floors and for kitchen installations, put a new blade in it and you get a beautiful straight and clean cuts, on sink and hob worktop cut outs.

I have a PSC420 (18v barrel grip) and use it all the time fitting kitchens.

Cutting/scribing end panels, plinth, etc. It's probably the second most-used powertool after my drill for my work.

Definitely worth it IMO, if it got nicked I'd buy another immediately.

I have a trion which is good but hardly ever use it, think I would use a jigsaw more if I had a cordless one and didn't need to mess around with cables. I have plenty of makita batteries so thought about getting a makita jigsaw but once I buy a systainer to put it in I might as well buy a carvex, but it's quite expensive and I don't use a jigsaw much and already have a trion anyway. I keep going round in circles with this one!

All kinds of stuff -- ... cutting limestone...

[tongue]
What blade does one use for that? and how think of limestone?

1/8 inch to 1/4 inch thick pieces...go slow and use water to lubricate and cool the blade. One like this works well:

Festool 486562 R 54 G Carbide Tipped Jigsaw Blade, 2 1/8 Inch

I have the Festool Trion Barrel Grip 110v jigsaw which I use to cut curves on anything I can't heft up to my 20" Powermatic Bandsaw.  I would do a search on here on the Carvex before you give up on your barrel grip saw.  I have to admit that cutting curves with the jigsaw still leaves me with edge cleanup with a spokeshave or sander.

I use mine for cutting curves in wood that's just a bit too thick for my scroll saw. I didn't have a band saw until today, if I can get it tuned to my satisfaction, I might use my Carvex a little less. Maybe not.

I have the 110v version, if the cordless wasn't $200 more (since I don't have any Festool batteries) I would've gotten that one. Although, if you have to be attached to a vacuum, what's one more long thing attached to a wall?

Which bandsaw did you get mort?  Did you take it on the plane?  ;^)

Cheers. Bryan.

I use the Carvex mostly for cutting 2X material, however recently, I have cut a lot of 3/8" & 1/2" thick MIC 6 with the Trion. I like the Trion for it's weight and feel but I also appreciate the Carvex for it's interchangeable bases and it's on-board lighting capabilities. I'd sell the Trion if the the tales of Carvex doom & gloom would disappear. However, the Carvex tales of doom & gloom still surface from time to time and that makes me keep both saws "just in case".

Also worthy of note, if the Carvex is that much superior to the Trion, why does Festool still offer the Trion for sale alongside the "newer & more capable" Carvex?

Just another Festool oxymoron...it would be nice for a Festool engineer to weigh in here...3rd request...

I use mine more in the cms module then free hand. However the jigsaw is one of those tools that you may not use all the time but when ya need it ya got it.

Especially for installs

Thanks for your input guys

I think I will get an 18v carvex and probably an accessory kit

Then i will go for a HKC

That will then be it for 18v for me

I got an old free one. It says Shopmaster on it. That's about all I know.

Does the vehicle in your Avatar have the infamous chip fitted?

it might have lol .its actually off the road now 3 little grandsons have trashed it

its funny how i started this thread. asking what use is a jigsaw and do i need another one

after all the input and watching a few utube videos

ive just orderd a 18v carvex with accesory kit

maybe i always had an idea i would buy this and used the forum as a reason to convince myself

i dont think any of us has  done that before lol  [big grin]

I don't know how others feel, but if I had to do it over again, I wouldn't have purchased the accessory kit.  If you use your jigsaw for a lot of different types of materials it might be worth it, but I hardly ever switch out the stock black base.  Those bases that you find yourself needing can be purchased separately.

But I think the cordless is definitely the way to go -- I went with the corded because I wasn't yet invested in the battery platform, but would absolutely go with the cordless now if I had to choose.  If you're doing tight curves or any sort of circle work, the cord can become a real hassle (and forget about the hose, which has minimal dust collection capabilities with the saw, making it more of a hindrance than help).

I have to agree with Edward, I have the 18v Carvex and the accessory kit.
The kit has probably been the biggest waste of money I have spent on Festool so far, partly my fault as I got into the habbit of not using the kit as it takes up too much space to carry around with me, so when I'm on site and I think a base would come in handy,  the kit isn't with me and is back in the workshop where it always Lives. When I find time I might merge the jigsaw and accessory kit into one systainer and then I'll have everything to hand.
I have used the circle cutter a few times and is good but I could have just bought that separetely.

Doug S I have had many jigsaws. Several Bosch, Makita, Mafell, Milwaukee,Dewalt, craftsman, the trion barrel grip and the Carvex. They all work. My least favorite were Milwaukee  and craftsman. The most disappointing to me by far is the carvex. There is far too much hype surrounding it and it does not deliver what it promises. My favorite is without hesitation the Mafell. But interestingly my next favorite is the newer brushless Makita twins. Yes I have both top handle and barrel grip. They are outstanding! Very powerful and smooth! They cut curves better than either Festool jigsaw. They also cut faster in thick lumber than either fes. I use them far more than I ever used a corded jigsaw. They make me smile every time I us them.

Just read that last post

And I was really exited after getting home and seeing my new carvex and accessory kit

Well I've got it now and I'm really pleased with it

P.s I'm sort of getting the hump with every time we say anything it gets referd to how good maffell is. I'm sure there is a maffell owners group

Now my question .I was thinking next to get the carvex

I've got a 110v barrel grip trion which is really good .i do a bit of curved work but over the last few months all I seem to use the jigsaw for is chopping offcuts down to fit in the incinerator

What do you guys think is the cordless carvex worth it ?

It's funny how this thread went. It started with this question ^^, but most people have answered the thread subject question - which is fair enough. But the questions are very different.

I answered based on the question quoted above. You didn't need to drop a load of money on a Carvex.
