What do you use your MFK 700 for?

....The only complaint I have is that it doesn't have an attachement to the guide rail.......

Dave, you may have seen Jerry Work's home made guide rail attachment (I made my own version), for those of you that haven't check it out on his site, http://www.jerrywork.com/. Go to tutorials and it's about half way down the page.

I used mine for the first time today.  It was used with my Akeda dovetail jig.  The MFK 700 worked great with it because of the ability to make the most precise micro adjustments.  Previously, I used a Dewalt DW618 Router.  Adjusting the depth anything more precise than about 1/32 of an inch was nearly impossible.  The MFK 700 gave me the ability to dial the bit depth precisely.

Thanks Brice, this is a great solution.

I received my MFK today.  I see that the HORIZONTAL base will allow the motor to be mounted VERTICALLY in it.  Is there a use for the router mounted in this fashion in this base?  Any ideas anyone?  I'm intrigued how the MFK would be used (or not used) in this fashion.

I have used this setup to flush trim dowels, actually, Domino tenons.

Ok.  Thanks for providing that, Brice.

I see that when the router is mounted vertically on the horizontal mounting plate, the bearing mounting plate is exposed to the outside.  Any thoughts about mounting a bearing or other feeler to this plate and using this as a scribing tool?  Perhaps this could be an attachment created by one of the enterprising types on here.

I am trying to decide whether to buy the MFK 700 for an upcoming project to install 200+ doors. I need to route the doors and door jambs (which are already installed), install the hinges and hang the doors. I have a palm router but the thing is a mess.

My take on this festool is to stay away from it as many have written negative things about it or seem to be perplexed about how to use it (like me). But I feel that it has possibilities. The link to Brice's review does not work, so I have not been able to review the tool in much depth.

So... are there any new opinions out there about the MFK 700? New uses?

I've got all the Festool routers and find the 1010 much handier for small jobs than the 700. The 700 is excellent for edge trimming although a bit fussy to set up.
