What Festool Did You buy Today?

I got a C18 yesterday lunchtime, by lunchtime today I already broke it [eek].  All I did was drop it 7 foot off a stud wall.  Those locking collars are definitely made of monkey metal :'(

What did it land on?

I'm certainly not one to blindly defend Festool, but to be fair, a 7ft drop isn't insignificant!

I agree that a 7' drop isn't insignificant, still it is not out of what I would say is "normal use".  What I mean by a drop of 7-8' as normal use is that almost all cordless drills are designed to withstand a certain amount of "abuse".  Falls are unavoidable in normal professional use so the drills have to survive or no one would buy them.

My experience with the 5 Festool drills I've owned over 8 years has been outstanding.  My drills have survived nasty falls with only superficial damage.  I think these drills are tough, still, it only takes a bit of bad luck for your drill to land the wrong way to do real damage.

I for one will say any fault is with me :-[, not the drill.  I can't say I'm surprised the locking collar broke and meant the monkey metal comment as a bit tongue in cheek.  The drill and angle attachment are working fine so all in all impressed that it took such a drop, onto lime screed without any serious damage.  I've ordered two spare locking collars.  One to fix it and one for the next time I do something stupid.

Ironically I know from countless similar experiences not to put tools on high places I'm working on, particularly when vibrating the thing to death with a multi-tool.

I feel your pain , I had a four day old Hitachi impact drill  Slide off a two-story roof to the ground .  I eBay to a new housing and put it back together and here I am 10 or 12 years later still with the same drill .

Just made my first green purchase this week: midi vac, ro-150 and two boxes of grant sandpaper p40 & p80.

Got the centrotec installers kit this week. I'm building a new deck for the garden and this has been great so far.  I also ordered the surfix kit. Been meaning to get this for a while but couldn't quite press the button.  It seems impressive from the test piece of oak flooring I tried. Do people tend to use an alternative oil/wax for flooring or stick with the festool oil?

I stole a bunch of tools today. At gunpoint but I'm a big strong guy so it would have been no contest. I'm sorry be be a douche but I'm a little pissed from a different thread and feel while I should be happy I got a too good to be true deal that I should know better. Good post though, other than my stolen items I purchased the vac clamp, contoro edge banding system an bunch of mft3 accessories( not all festool)
A 55" track, 4 clamps, woodpecker square, 36" straight edge, 24" t square, 12" t square, 12" ruler, 24" ruler, ruler hook, ruler stop. Wixey planer gauge, dewalt dw735 with free stand. I think that's all I got :) sorry again

Just bought a CMS VL only no modules, since I already own 3 module and made a couple of more, having the 2nd CMS will come in real handy. Only downside side is it only in 240V so I have to get a 110V switch oder to use my NA tools

I pre-ordered the CT-SYS and OF2200 package deal from Shane and Toolnut/Festoolproducts.com.

I bought the VL CMS ( just the stand) I already own a GE, the VL this will speed up my work flow quite a but

I guess I'll play- last week bought a Kapex and the portable stand with extensions- this is an amazing upgrade to my 25 yr old Makita (which is still going strong, but doesn't have the capacity I need). The stand is really wonderful, and easily folds down for storage in my limited space. Thinking about a CT26 and 37mm hose... My 18 yr old Porter Cable and small hose is OK, but there is still more dust than I would like.

Congrats!

I personally love my Kapex but my CT is used more often.  If you go the CT route my guess is that even just the lower noise level will put a smile on your face.

The RS 2E sander, with  Hole Punch and MPE Sanding Pad For Sheet Abrasives (and a bunch of sheet sandpaper).  Also purchased the 3.5m sleeved hose and CT Mounted Tool Holder my CT26.  Today I also went to Woodcraft and purchased the Festool 500076 SYS-MFT Tabletop Systainer 1, to sit on top of my CT26 (since I can't afford the MFT/3 yet)..  Now I just need a clamp and I will be set...

Interesting interaction between my Kapex and the tool-controlled PC vac - If I leave the Kapex's laser turned on, the auto shut off sometimes doesn't work on the vacuum. Minor thing, but interesting. In favor of the CT, having the ability to dial down the suction would be good for sanding. I use mostly a Rotex RO 90, but it's a little small for larger jobs. For those i have my old Bosch 6" 1370 DEVS random orbital sander, but it's  A BEAST - heavy, and the dust collection isn't all that great (ok, but not great, funky little Bosch hose). Thinking about a 5" ETS EC125/3 for finish sanding... comments? The Bosch is ok for rough stuff, but I haven't been too happy with it for finer projects. The Rotex RO 90 is really nice, but a bit small for larger things...

Anything with ETS on it from Festool will give you a great finish and will also offer excellent DC.

The larger orbit ETS sanders are a good compromise if you don't have something that'll shred [wink]

I'd go for the 150 rather than the 125. No particular reason other if I go big I go big. Don't forget to check out the different pads.  I use the hard pad for flattening a panel works a good as a belt sander IMO and you might like the interface pad for the 90.
