What Festool Did You buy Today?

Haven't bought much Festool for a while. Until today now that changed as  I had the need for a major improvement in my paint removal sanding gear. I've gotten by with a Metabo Turbo tec 425 5 inch sander, but it's rather wobbly with a high center of gravity for working on vertical surfaces also I miss the efficiency of the pllug it and systainer storage with the metabo. I have speculated on getting either  Rotex 125 or the etc etc 125 for the job og paint removal and finish preperation, but when I checked out the shop they had the Rotex 150 with the handle and being better for larger surfacing jobs I  dove in. I just think for agressive paint removal or working with hardwoods the Rotiex i the most capable. The  larger version seems to be the most popular for good reason, today I used it on som oak planks and it did a good job relatively easy sanding out uneveness left by planing with 60 gr granat and bringing it to finish (linseed oil for outdoor) ready with 120 gr.

So now I own the RO 150 to pair with the RO 90 for paint removal and wood surfacing.

Just picked up the DF 500 Q Set off the recon site.

I don't really have a need for it, but I wanted to score one when it came up.  I think I should be good to go with Festool purchases for a while now.  Although - I guess I am missing a rectangular sander...

A Vac-Sys System set from the recon site. Wow, I'm in love with this rig!

Thinking about how to make an 80/20 solid top bench 4 foot by 8 foot to assemble on and clamp the vac sys on a high adjustable 80/20 dual track mounted about a foot in from each end. That should be the ticket for door and cabinet side drilling and sanding...[emoji41]

To celebrate a nightmarish home sale going through I picked up a CXS after lusting after it for a while. I have to say I'm a little perplexed by this drill. I get the balance, and the right angle and fast fix chucks. .but where it falls short for me so far:

The included 1/4" bit adapter is awfully wobbly when you have it going into the centrotec chuck.

They really should include or at least offer the Twinbox for this drill. Can't buy it anymore in the US. To that end how about some sort of Centrotec starter kit. The installer set isn't available either. .only in Europe. One of the big supposed benefits is centrotec yet I don't see many bits offered here.

For the purpose of getting into tight spaces and ergonomics I like the drill I'm just lost as to why it falls short when it comes to accessories. I need more time with this, it hasn't wowed me yet. I was hanging 2x4 on joists to mount light boxes, driving GRK 3 1/2" screws with T25 heads and it couldn't get them past about half way. My Milwaukee M12 non-fuel had no problem doing it.

I love the CXS and am also a Centrotec fan...

Is there a chance that the 1/4" Centrotec Tool Holder is not quite pushed in far enough in the Centrotec chuck? I have accidentally had this happen a couple of times and so it is worth a check.

[member=11196]Peter Parfitt[/member] see the attached video of how it wobbles

Is this normal? Even the centrotec Chuck looks like it's wobbling

The bit holder also looks a little too far out.  The backside of it should but up against the Centrotec chuck.
When I first got my CXS I had a similar problem.  The bit holder wouldn't seat all the way.  Turns out I had an extra magnet stuck in the hex socket - it had come off the Centrotec chuck.  The dealer swapped the chuck and I was good to go.

I searched the forum for cxs wobble and found several threads... With lots of people making excuses for it saying it's normal

That does not look normal and you should go back to your dealer and get an expert opinion.

Good luck.

[member=11196]Peter Parfitt[/member] I will do that, thank you. I tried the jacobs and right angle chucks and they wobble pretty badly as well. If it were a $100 drill I'd live with it but. . .as it is it's causing the entire drill to shake when I touch the bit to something.

I went to the dealer and we were unable to get a good combination. We pulled out the demo CXS, my new CXS, and a package containing the centrotec bit holder and the centrotec chuck accessories. We tried every combination we could between the two CXS demo and new, the demo centrotec chuck, the new centrotec chuck, and the centrotec chuck from the accessory package, the bit holder from my CXS and the bit holder from the accessory package.

Observations:
The centrotec quick release bit holder from the 'kit' he pulled looked different than the one in my Systainer. It was silver while mine was black, and it had a green o-ring whereas mine didn't, and it seemed to wobble less in any given configuration. Every now and then we'd get the wobble to go away with a given setup but then removing the bit or bit holder and rotating it and re-inserting would reproduce wobble. No matter the setup the right angle chuck was unusable with the amount of wobble.

I ended up returning the CXS. He's ordering in several more, and will call after he's tested them out. The one I returned had a 1/2018 date on it.

It's definitely the best you could do. As others pointed out already, what you were experiencing isn't normal, and not acceptable. So let's hope for the new shipment of CXS as it's a great drill/driver!

Can you give me a link to the screws you couldn't sink with it?

Kind regards,
Oliver

For the screws to be fair I hadn't charged the battery yet so I don't think I can rule on that just yet.

After four or five failed attempts I finally got an RO 125 off the recon site today. I am a happy boy or at least I will be when it arrives. Sometimes it just takes lucky timing!

Because 7 Sanders is clearly not enough, I bought an RO90.

Aside from sanding duties, I am going to get 4" foam polishing pads and use this for buffing out headlights.

Managed to snag an used EHL 65 planer off Ebay.  It will make a good addition to the 850 which was one of my gateway drugs to my Festool addtction.

Bought the CTM 26 e AC and system dab radio yesterday. It all started with an RG130 renofix about 6 weeks ago. Now I have the Festool big.
