Just ordered the T15+3 set from my nearest dealer, but they only had two holster choices. One is leather and is too large the other is nylon fabric type stuff that looks tacky.
So what holsters do you guys use or don't you?
Not too keen to bounce the new family member, even though Brice writes his did not suffer in his excellent review.  ;D
Thanks, Rob.

Cancel it & get the new C15.  It has a belt clip & a light & will be on sale in 3 weeks.  2nd generation motor where the t15 is a 1st generation motor.

Sorry, I don't any helpful suggestions, I think you may have a hard time finding a holster to fit well because of the relativity compact size of the T+3 drills.

I do hope the belt clip on the new C15/12s will be available for the T+3 drills too.

No, the T+3 drills have the second generation EC-Tec motors too.

It was my dealer who told me about the motors.  I will be calling him on Monday to point out his mistake  [embarassed]

I would still cancel the order & get the C15 for the light if nothing else though.

Woodguy.

Rob, Occidental Leather makes really nice holsters.

And, Brice is correct.  Same motors.  The C12/15 have a belt clip and integrated light which are the only two differences that I can think of other than the handle design.  We showed the new C12/15 at IBS in Vegas, I suspect they may have also been shown at JLC last month.

Thanks for replies so far.
I don't like the belt clip on makitas offering nor the ones on Paslode nail guns, they just give a false sense of security! I can get into some weird positions on some jobs  ;D I want to fasten it securely in a holster when I need to.
The light aspect is also not of great importance either, to my mind if the light always comes on when the trigger is pressed then you are wasting power and will need to recharge more often. I know with LED's it is a small amount but still do not see the need. Festool do a clip on light so that can be utilised as and when the job warrants it. Though I would like to know if it can be used with the angle chuck attachment?
I know Occidental Leather products are available over here just got to find a dealer near me and take a closer look.

I should go for the Bigg Lugg belt clip and ladder hanger.
I use them from Festool, but you can get similar design at Axminster (#700105 & 700107).
You can also order some bungees more and use them on other tools as well.

Looks like someone else does not trust the Makita belt clip! ;D ;D [big grin]

Thanks Neeleman, I will keep these in mind if the holster route does not work out.

I have those for my sanders.

It looks like I have a Batman belt full of sanders if I am on a ladder or in a lift. [cool]

I use the Festool Tool Holder that attaches to the ladder.  Very convenient...  I used to set the drill on the ladder and then when I'd pull the ladder to move it there went the drill on the ground.  [mad]  Very convenient to use the Festool/Bigg Lugg version...  If you can no longer get the Festool Tool Holder, Amazon has the Bigg Lugg ones in lime green.

I know a number of companies are rebadgeing these, I got one free with a Warner stepladder last year.

Brice,

I know i saw a post somewhere els regarding some plastic that could be formed.

Maybe a custom holster for a drill?

I suppose that could be done. The plastic Peter is referring to is Kydex. Here's a Youtube video of Kydex being used to make a sheath for a knife so you can get an idea of what would be involved.

Occidental Leather makes really nice holsters.

Shane makes a good recommendation...

Occidental has some of the coolest leather on the Planet. They are a small group of Artisans that really care about their work and, IMHO, can't be beat.

If you'd like to get their stuff, please contact me.

I have several Oxy pouches.  They make nice tool belts, but I found that the pouches stick out too far to the side and the belts didn't provide enough support.  IMO, the best tool belts are the custom Diamondbacks: http://www.toolbelts.com/index.php.

Diamondbacks are more higher end and therefore more expensive than Oxy belts and pouches.   One of nice features is the quick release for the belts.  You can change one pouch for another without disassembling the whole belt.  Also, their belts come in 2, 2.5, 4, 6, and 8" wide models: http://www.toolbelts.com/belts.php.  I have the 6" model and it provides MUCH more support than standard belts.

A key feature for me is that the Diamondback pouches stay closer to your body, which makes indoor navigation much easier than Oxy belts.  And it reduces back fatigue and pain.  With my OXY pouches, the pain would start in my (bad) back after an hour or so.  I can wear my Diamondbacks for hours with no pain.  (YMMV)

Regarding a holster for the T15, here's the Diamondback holster: http://www.toolbelts.com/holsters.php .   FYI, a C12 will NOT this holster.  (Of course, the C12 won't fit in any standard drill holster.)

Regards,

Dan.

Good suggestion for those who like the ergonomics of the C series.  The C-series is what held me away from Festool drills.  Jumped on the T15+3 as soon as it came out.  Super happy, and I wouldn't have been with the C15.

Sorry to awake from the dead a thread, but in a recent thread there was a discussion of custom holsters for the Festool drills.  This thread was about a T15-3.  I have prototyped a leather holster for the T-15 and am working on the C-12.  My hope is to work my way thru the line - including the CXS.

Here are some progress images of the C-12.  These images are after fitting it to the drill.  The final product will not have the rivets and will be slimmed down.  The stitching is all temporary, I need to disassemble and make a mold.  This is a work in progress.  But it least it will give you a glimpse.

The drill will stay in the holster without the strap for normal usage.

I would show the T15-3 version, but it has not been cleaned up after making molds yet.

I probably shouldn't stick my nose in here since I'm not interested in a holster, but I've got some questions.  First, the drill looks like it wouldn't be well balanced in this holster.  With the weight of the battery in the back is the center of gravity for the drill too far outside the holstered area of the drill?  My fear would be the drill might want to pull/pivot itself out.  Second question, how do you anticipate the mouth or opening of the holster keeping it's shape?  It it starts to collapse over time inserting the drill will be harder.  I have plenty of experience with holsters of other items but none with drills so I don't know how it all works out for drills.  I can tell you my opinion of leather holsters in general isn't good.  I mentioned this in the other thread, Kydex is a far better material but maybe it's not ideal for this application.

Brice,

I always appreciate your observations and thoughts.  My first attempt at this had the drill rotating right out of the holster.  Then I added some stuff and based on that made a new pattern.  The drill does not rotate out.  Without the strap you can knock it in either the up or down direction and it does not come out.  The leather will more likely stretch versus compress.  I took you comment about Kydex to heart.  I wondered how a hard plastic would affect the tool surface.  That would be an issue with Festool lovers.  Then I had to look at the keyless chuck versus the Centrotec chuck, and having a bit installed.  I have tried to deal with the wacky center of balance of the C-12 and based on my hanging experiments and the width of the belt loop it isn't too bad.

I, like you do not use holsters for drills, but others do.  In fact maybe something like this would be adapted to a WCR or a MFT or a stack of systainers.

I do already have one piglet lined up to test one out - you guys know how much I like Piggies!

Hey, I get bored easily and want to try new things.  Next up is a custom tool belt based on how I work.

Peter
