Hi Guys
I like reading these kind of posts from others so thought I'd give you a little insight into my week...
Another property with some nice traditional features.
It has 3 south facing dormer windows on frontage with scroll cut fascia and hex / turned finial.
Problem is the fascia was done in PLYWOOD! and the finial done in untreated softwood.
Everything is starting to rot and the ply is delaminating.
Client asked me to replace like for like using hardwood.
Basically we made templates of the existing using 6mm ply. Templates for the fascia and profile cut for the finials.
Scroll cuts are done using carvex with K75s blades.
I intended to cut one and then use router with copy bit but the carvex was so easy I decided to cut them all freehand.
It was nice having some turning as part of a job as I find it doesn't come up much but I use it more for hobby / gifts etc.
Clients painter was scheduled to come after us so we offered to prime and undercoat everything in the workshop that way all hidden and exposed faces and edges are done.

Thanks for looking.
Scott

Nice job on the turning. I have only done 2 turnings in 10 years for work so i put my lathe in storage, seeing your work makes me want to drag it out and play around for awhile.

Thanks guys.
I've enjoyed this week with all the turning and the timber going through the workshop.
My domino df500 even got in on the act to attach the "tilting fillet" piece where the roof angle changes to slow the water running down the slates before it reaches the gutter. I'm constantly amazed where I find uses for the domino in everyday carpentry.
All items and cut edges have had two coats (primer and undercoat) and fitting starts tomorrow.
More pics will follow.
Scott

Good idea and nicely done.
I like to give clients a gift mostly iPad / iPhone stands etc from off cuts etc. it's better than a bottle etc and gives a unique gift to them.

Ye that's my thoughts too but it's hard  to get the boss to think that way  [embarassed]  keep up the good work Scott and keep posting photos it's good to see nice work sort of locally  [big grin]

That first picture looks like it is just one layer of paint! Horrible, who would do that, especially in the moist Scottish climate! No wonder it's rotting away. Well, good for you, at least you get to make it right again and put some money in your pocket. Over here, plywood is used regularly for fascia's an the like, but is has to be the proper quality and painted right.

Ye Alex it's used a lot here which is crap

Nice bit of turning.

I have never done any wood turning myself.

Would like to give it ago.  My mate does it.

I done turning on metal lathes I know its different.

I might buy a lathe once I am all set up and bought what I need for my work shop.

That's if I have any money left :(

Hi All

Thanks for the nice comments.
All materials now run and prep painted including the meranti dado beads.
I started fitting and it's starting to come together.
Fortunately the framing at the back was still in good condition.
Fitting the other two and dado beads to all three on Thu / Fri.

Hi All

Got everything finished Friday on this job, client is delighted and so am I.
Clients own painter is due in on Monday to apply finish etc.

Job was done from a mobile tower scaffold but here is Reece (my 1st year apprentice) working off the ladder to touch up any cut edges etc.
