I'm looking to make some cam clamps and wondered what is the cheapest option for me in the UK when it comes to timber parts for them.

I am looking at Maple, Beech, Birch and Hornbeam.

Regards

Hi
I would have thought Beech is the cheapest then Birch but Hornbeam is the usual timber for cam clamps. I think Klemsia (spelling may be incorrect) make them.
Nice to make though, i still have some knocking around from long time back, now moved over to Bessey for most needs
Hope this helps

Hello Phil,

Thank you for a reply, Yes Klemssa is the only brand about ( at least here in the UK ) and Axminster tools are the only people who stock them. My work buddy and I thought it would be cheaper and more fun to make them rather than buy of the shelf. There is another reason why we are looking to make them, Axminster no longer stock them post 600mm in lenght.

I'm sorry I haven't come to Sandown tool show. We suddenly got loads to get done at work, so now overtime including Saturdays till Christmas.
