What Is Wrong With Some People?

I use eBay quite a lot, and have 'Festool' as one of my saved searches (just in case anything interesting comes up).

I've noticed over the last couple of months that there's one seller (I won't name them) who's listing more & more Festool items for more than double the list price. It's getting worse - they currently have 581 Festool items listed, all at ridiculously high prices. It's really annoying, as it just floods the results & makes stuff harder to find.

If you do a search for their completed items, they have 695 items that have ended in the last month, of which just TWO have sold. One was a DX93 baseplate (list price £11.16) that sold for £35.45 +£2.75 P&P, and an OF1400 guide bush (list price £15.60) that went for £30.20 +£2.75 P&P!!!

I don't know who is more stupid, the people listing them or the 2 idiots that paid massively over the odds for stuff!

There are a lot of shady characters around the net, predating on exactly those stupid people you mention. The people from that ad you mention probably have nothing in stock, they just list a huge amount of items, and when somebody is dumb enough to order something from them, they run out to the store to buy it and send it out. Easy money.

You'd think buyers would be smarter these days with search capabilities right at their fingertip, and the huge majority is, of course. But there's always a few that aren't.

Maybe they ship outside of UK or EU where Festool does not have representative or it's even more expensive there...

Actually when I used to spend more time on ebay, it was quite common for people to buy used tools (not even boxed as sold) without a manufacturer's warranty for approximately the same price (or higher) than they could have bought them new with shipping. I don't know many things, but I do know that, if I have a choice between a new tool from a dealer with the warranty and one on ebay used without a warrant for the same price, I will buy the new one. Some must just enjoy the process of buying on ebay.

I saw those listings. I wish Ebay could filter the crooks out of the system.

eBay can't do anything in this case, it is not against the law to ask a high price.

Hmmm..., I wonder

Maybe I should sell off my TS EQ 55, CT22, C12 and Deltex on eBay and have enough left over after eBay fees for those Carvi (Carvex plural) [big grin] that I have in my coming attractions list.

No ... I really meant filter and I meant Ebay the application, not Ebay the organisation. Being able to eliminate specific sellers from any results you ever see - to set up a personal black list. Then you'd be able to ignore them ongoing.

I will join your rant, but for US based sellers of Festool. There is a guy who has listed a RTS400 sander a few times, the first times at about $165 over retail. No additional parts or sand paper, I asked him about the extremely high price but got no reply.. There is a guy who has the floor mats at double retail. There is a Syslite over retail. Don't these sellers take the two minutes to see what the actual retail is? Or, don't people who want to buy do what I do, take the two minutes to check any number of reputable Festool retailers to find out what the actual price is? I hope that people are not paying so much over retail for Festool... the whole thing is just silly.

Not that Ebay cares either they make $$ on just listing an item most of the time

It's the buyers, I think. . .I've stopped bidding on tools because the price has approached the retail price from either a local Woodcraft or Rockler or a reputable online dealer. Others still bid and buy. Seems to me that, even at a price close to retail new, much less over, there is no value in buying a tool on ebay with no manufacturer warranty or not truly knowing exactly what condition it's in. My guess is that the seller knows the retail price new. It's the buyers who either don't know or get carriers away in the bidding process and then don't pay attention. It's an free market.

You can set up searches that exclude specific sellers. Just go to Advanced Search and select this option:

Then save the search (I guess they call that "follow this search" now) after you run it the first time.

Ah-ha!

I knew you could do searches limited to certain sellers, but I didn't know you could exclude them too. Thanks!

I sometimes wonder how people can be so cheeky to up the price so much , but so long as there are people willing to pay the price then you will always get sellers looking for the next sucker. There was an atf55 saw on eBay recently with a start price of £250  [eek] . Bet it's sold through.
