Guns, and acceptance for gun violence in the US media, is a culturally different than in Australia.
Access to mental health care in the US, is also different than it is in Australia.

[size=13pt]This thread is probably and quite rightly going to be pulled by the mods as being political. But before they do, I want to say -

These two examples are, regretfully, only just two of so many reasons why most of the rest of the world cannot understand why the US has such lax gun laws and associated regulations.

We look on with dismay!

And for the information of some readers, in my youth,  I was a club champion at 303 long range target shooting.

Actually, we do not have lax gun laws.  It is illegal to murder people with guns, or any other way, here in the States; just like it is in the rest of the world.  This sort of tragedy could have happened anywhere in the world.  You are for more likely to hear about it through the mainstream media when it happens in the US.  When this happens in some other country it isn't going to make the worldwide news.

There are plenty of places to discuss this sort of thing but it is not what I expect or desire on the FOG.

Seriously?  You speak this as if laws and regulations actually mattered to criminals.  They don't = that is why they are called criminals.  A firearm is just a tool, an inanimate object that has no evil intent and can do nothing on its own.  It is the evil in the hearts of mankind that is the problem, not the tools they use.  Over 35 years ago, my wife used a firearm to fend off 3 thugs strung out on drugs breaking in at 3:00am (I was away at sea).  She called 911 as they were walking up the driveway.  Needless to say, police really do respond in minutes when seconds count.  If you wish to rely on your gooberment to protect you at all times, by all means, you have the right to do so. Look on with all the dismay you wish, as it does not matter to me.

PLEASE

I didn't post this to start a gun law debate or a discussion specifically about US gun laws.

I posted this because it made me really sad that we have the ability to do these sort of things as human beings.

For those who wish to debate gun ownership there are plenty of other places on the internet to do so.

If you wish to discuss nail guns, caulking guns, or glue guns please use the Other Tools thread.
