That's a subject that I specifically brought up with my daughter. "If something ever happens to me while I'm still working.....get yourself there and be sure that you get everything that is mine." "To the uninitiated it may not look like much, but it's quite valuable"

We actually went through this many years ago when my FIL died of a heart attack across the road form his work. No-one at his work knew what stuff was his and what wasn't so I'm sure there was a lot not passed to his wife. I'd recommend making a photo list of all your stuff to keep on hand in case. Last thing anyone needs at a time like that is to battle over stuff.

While digging around at RS Hughes I noticed they also offer sample packs of 3M Xtract Cubitron II discs which is a net product similar to Abranet or Granat Net. The sample packs are available in 5" & 6" diameter discs. Each sample pack contains 2 each discs in 80+, 120+, 180+, 220+, 240+ and 320+ grit for a total of 12 discs per pack.

For 5" discs the price is 5 cents per disc  [jawdrop]  [jawdrop]  while the 6" discs cost 7 cents per disc. I'm just going to order a 20-pack (case) of each size and be done with it.

Wow! We pay about $1+ each here, I'd be stocking on a crapload for sure at that price. They don't last as long as the Festool Granat mesh do, but they do cut better. Highly recommend them.

Where do you buy them from?

Carbatec, $55 for a box of 50. I did find a crowd online that would do bulk orders for around $.60 or so ea, but you needed to buy a minimum of 300 per size. I don't mind over buying stuff but seeing as I'm still using Festool s/paper I bought 40 years ago, I don't think i'll ever get through at least 1800 mesh discs anytime soon! A group buy is probably the only realistic way to do it.

If I actually receive the 1,200 5" disks I ordered ($75 including shipping) I'd be happy to share. 4 of the 5 cases showed as back ordered, I'm expecting an email telling me they have to cancel the order.

Or you can just wait for the estate sale...

Thanks for the offer Richard, but I need the 150mm discs. That $75 you paid is literally 1/10th of what it would cost me at the cheapest bulk rate possible!

Hey [member=44099]Cheese[/member] i like RS Hughes BUT have you found a way to get around the 14.95 minimum shipping charge?  [eek]

Are you buying $250 worth each time?  [scared]

No Ron [member=3192]rvieceli[/member] I have not...I just try to put in as large an order as practical and pay the shipping. The last order included all kinds of bits and pieces from all over. They have over 50 warehouses throughout the US & Mexico. For one order I received packages from Minnesota, California, Florida & Alabama...I got my $14.95 worth on that one.  [big grin]

Cheese have you used the Cubitron net stuff before? Are you using the Festool pad protector or the 3M one?

Thanks

Ron

Not Cheese, but I just got the Cubitron Extract (net) discs and a Festool pad protector and tried them out for the first time last night. I'm pretty impressed so far. Dust collection is as close to 100% as I can imagine. Granat dust collection is excellent, too, but working strictly from memory, I would say Extract gets a very slight edge. Stock removal with 80 grit is impressive. I hit some band saw cut Sassafras with an ETS-125 and all teeth marks were gone in a couple passes. Seems slightly quicker than Granat...maybe the net is clearing the swarf faster.

Since they're half the price of Granat sheets, if they last 60% as long as Granat, it's a win. That determination will take a project or two.

I completely forgot about Cheese's RS Hughes link and bought 50 sheet packs of three grits and paid nearly normal price for them. When I'm through kicking myself I'm going to order some of the sample packs to fill in the lesser used grits.

I'm using 3m net discs and they work great with my ets-ec 125/150 .  I'm using festool pad saver and works just fine. Dust collection is very good, just don't forget to turn the suction down

Once I receive the Extract discs, I'll initially be using a Festool pad saver. However the 3M version looks interesting because of the hole pattern.

Here's the Festool 5" vs the 3M 5".

Looks like I'll have a lifetime supply of sanding disks after all...

Now to find someplace to store them all.

Coming from a guy who has their adjustable track square, it may sound silly, but I just can't with most of the Woodpeckers stuff. It's super nice, don't get me wrong, but come on.
I have struggled with(made do) other shop made solutions, so I gave in to the Chinese/Amazon version.
Since I resisted mechanical pencils for years, only giving in a few years ago (still not 100%) I do have the ability to mark with it. Though it will likely just draw layout lines most of the time.
I started with a tiny saddle square a few months ago, It works for me, so...

Ok, so I just got a call from RS Hughes. They were very courteous as they explained that their website price was in error but had now been corrected. They then asked me if I wanted to go through with the order or cancel it. It went from $12 per case to $144 case so no thanks. I pitched a small fit about honoring advertised prices and the manager got on the phone. He held fast that they could not honor my order as originally priced but offered to send me a few packs for free as an apology. Just writing this as an FYI that the link posted here now shows the much higher price. Here’s hoping that you guys that already ordered get your discs at the original quoted prices without any problems.

Ok I technically didn't buy it as my son-in-law got permission to grab this shooting plane setup for me from his work where it's been sitting unused for some years now, but I'm pretty excited over this. Someone there went to a lot of trouble to meticulously machine a very large cast iron surface plate, and modified a Bailey No 6 plane with a solid brass rebated base to fit in the machined groove with no detectable slop.

As setup it can shave just under 1mm in a single pass. Weighs a ton, and as they have a metrology dept it's beautifully machined with incredibly tight tolerances, so stoked with this one!

Wow.

Are there any matching fixtures?

If not, consider that you'll be able to make your own using magnets.

I didn't get the call, they just changed the price, shipped me 2 packs and back ordered the balance. Just told them to cancel, what I assumed was a close out price was actually a pricing error per pack versus per disk.

Oh well.

There may be, I'll chase my SIL up as possibly no one there knows what they are if they're around. But seeing as it has machined holes I could always machine up some angle plate on the mill for mitres using matching pins to lock it in place.

I just bought an Airthings Pollution View. It has a laser sensor similar to the Dylos meters, but is a little more user friendly. I like how it can easily be wall mounted, run off USB-C or NiMH batteries, and if I want to go through the trouble of Homebridge, it looks like I can get it into HomeKit. Theoretically could automate turning on/off an air filter.

I guess the only downside is it may not give you individual counts of particles for different sizes, instead just giving a PM 2.5 number, but maybe you can see a breakdown in the app.

That's unfortunate... [sad]...however I was able to add 480 NOS items to my estate sale.  [big grin]

Here's what $12 of 5" Xtract discs and $16.76 of 6" Xtract Cubitron discs looks like.
