Very different Deep Purple but it’s great to hear from you Wayne!

Yes, it is very nice to hear from some of the original characters on this website.  [big grin]

I sincerely wish some of the original "others" would chime-in from time to time...just a quick hello would be welcomed. It's because of the "others" that I joined this group but it took me almost 6 years of "behind the scene surfing" before I decided to join this group. Some decisions are not easy to make...this decision should have been easier.  [smile]

Anyone remember Ronny James Dio in his first band "Elf" before he was asked to join Roger Glover's project and later on Rainbow? What a voice! ... I promise, I'll stop the artist thing now.  [big grin]

[member=8712]Richard/RMW[/member] : That's a really great idea. Thanks for sharing that. I will definitely copy that!

Actually his first band was Ronnie and the Red Caps in 1958.

I ordered the HP-8 mini block plane after seeing Sedge use it.  At $69.00 it was perfect to keep in a tool bag in my van.  It is a beautiful little tool, almost to pretty to use  It is perfect for cleaning up wood window stops and frames when replacing glass and insulated units.

After reading this I ordered one too.

At the time (about 5 days ago) they had an offer to buy a mystery item valued at $99 for just $10. I went for it since BCT doesn’t make any junk. Anything they sell is worth way more than $10.

Package arrived today and in addition to the HP-8 I received the tenonmaker TM-1. Nice!

That was a nice deal. You'll love the HP-8; I actually have a few. One is kept with the skids set for 1/8", which makes it nice to plane down a strip as a loose-tenon for a tablesaw kerf. Another has 45º shop-made fence for chamfering edges.

That is something I've been considering setting up on mine --- post a photo?

Just received a Bridge City Tools UG-1. My intent is to use it mostly as a tablesaw blade angle/height measuring device, but will see how well it works in practice.

Sure, William...

Left is the 1/8" thickness HP-8, right is the chamfer HP-8:

Here's the underside. Just two strips of 45º stock pushed up against the depth skids. They are double-stick taped to the sole of the plane (only heel-side as I don't want to block adjusting the mouth). There's a small notch cut where the blade protrudes for clearance. The depth skids help support the fence parts really well.

So that was my prototype and it works well enough that I haven't changed it. To do it over, I'd consider screws through the slots in the depth skids into the fence parts. Or, if you rather, put the double-stick tape on the side of the bevel fence so it sticks to the bottom edge of the fence. It would allow you to remove the depth skids to use the plane without them and reattach:

Since I mentioned the 1/8" thickness HP-8, here it is in use:

I attach a thin strip to the bench with a countersunk brass screw. Only need one. Swipe the plane until it stops cutting and I'd have a 1/8" thick strip I could use as a "floating tenon" between two parts where the mortise is a tablesaw kerf. I also have a slot-cutter router bit stacked for 1/8" as well. Works well when a Domino *shudder* can't.

I bought my HP-8 last year, also during a sale, but I think it was more than the current deal?
As I remember it, they change the anodizing colors with some regularity and sell off the "old color" at a pretty good discount?
As a guy with way too many routers, I feel stupid for not thinking of having multiples of these  [scared]
That's a great idea.
The one I went for this year was the HP-14 scraper plane. That thing is a work of art. I could just put it on a shelf and stare  [eek] I just hope that beautiful handle feels as good in the hand as it looks.
Should be here mid next week.

I use carving wheels a lot and had an old Makita dedicated for them, but as it was always a PITA to change the wheels over, I usually just used the one wheel.

A local seller had really nice 5" Hikoki grinders on sale less than half price this week and I also had a discount code, so grabbed 3 to have all wheels easily accessible. Being time poor a lot things like this are just invaluable ways to save a massive amount of time and mucking around!

That's exactly how I see routers  [scared]

Good on you though, I'm sure the time saved will even out the cost.
I know it does for me.

Thanks! Speaking of routers, I'm loving using the battery powered one I got recently so much I'm thinking at least one more would be great permanently setup for flush trimming. What else I've realised since is that a 1/2" shank cordless router would be incredibly useful for those quick adjustment jobs with bigger cutters.

Thinking i might try and wangle the Milwaukee in a few months!

[member=75933]luvmytoolz[/member] that would indeed be a nice addition, but I have yet to see one worth using, especially since it would probably require a new battery platform. I just can't see me doing that, at this point.
Many years ago, maybe 20, Porter-Cable had one. It was basically identical to the 690 shape/style.
However this was so long ago that it used 19.2v NiCad batteries  [eek] which would be gutless in comparison to what is out there now. It didn't last long. I assume discontinued because of negative customer feed-back?
I love my little Makitas for laminate trimming, but I actually had occasion to use both of my OF1010 at the same time. That's pretty rare.

The Milwaukee has really great reviews, but if I had to buy into yet another battery system, I'd prefer if to be compatible with the SYS 50 which I intend to get at some point. Running time really wouldn't matter to me, it's more about being able to quickly bring the tool to do an adjustment or tiny bit of work.

Using the cordless trimmer I've surprisingly found saves me an amazing amount of time not having to setup the corded for every tiny job,but there's a lot of times I need "that particular" 1/2" cutter for a few seconds work.

I have a feeling that Festool will come out with a cordless router this year.

The festool battery system is way better than I expected and has become my main battery setup. Really hopeful they release a router this year as that would be a really great addition.

While I don’t need a cordless router a cordless MFK700 would rise to the top of my list.

Picked up an assortment of 24" and shorter Bessey clamps at Menards with their "15% off anything that fits into this paper bag" sale, some F-style and some quick-clamp style.  Also a 23' strap clamp, a large and a mini Glubot (my first), and a 7" Knipex Pliers-wrench.  I wanted pipe clamps, but they had been wiped out of all of the Besseys other than the monster 3/4" H-body style.  Couldn't bring myself to justify the 10" pliers-wrench.
