What pad for scrubbing paint?

I need to scrub some detritus (dirt, stains, algae?) off of the paint on my LP tank. I don't want to damage the paint to the point where I can't wax/seal it and leave it, but I want to get pretty aggressive with it. I'm thinking that I'll use my RO150 in geared mode. I'm also thinking of using automotive polishing compound to do the scrubbing, but i'm open to other options.

What should I use for a pad on the Rotex?

I think I might go after it with a green scrubbing pad cut to fit the sander and some good stuff like Simple Green.  Then when it's dry, take some Festool rubbing compound.  The polishing compound is less aggressive, if you need that.
