What to use a broken systainer for

So in my recent Vantainer order, one of the Sys-1s came with a broken hinge.  Not repairable and too expensive to ship back for a replacement. So I'm trying to figure out a use for it, something where I wouldn't really need to open the lid.  Maybe a diy power sys? What would you do with a broken sys?

Wouldn't that be the shipper or seller's problem? Including replacement shipping?

Any way I am sure there is some way to use it.

Glue the lid on cut the center out for an  open topped vac extension or sys trash basket? Maybe  leave enough of the lid to still attach others on top. Keep it on a roll board. When you remove the top Systainers you then have a rolling bin. Could use that for extension cords, trash, off cuts.

This is starting to sound like something I should make on purpose.  [big grin]

Bought a refurb 850 Planer from Festool a couple weeks ago. It wasn't packed as well as Bob Marino's people do and UPS dropped it a couple times smashing in two corners. Called Festool and they sent me a brand new Sys 3.

PS  the planer was brand new.

I'd have the supplier remedy the situation.  If I couldn't, I'd take the lid and make a systainer dolly or cart top to roll systainers around on since a broken hinge won't affect those uses.  Not sure what I'd do with the box other than buy another lid or have the supplier send you one.

Sell it to [member=1619]SRSemenza[/member]  [poke].  He is so into Systainers.

Well I've contacted Vantainer about the broken Sys.  Considering overseas shipping costs on a single Sys1, I'm not sure what will happen.  Otherwise I'll use the lid for another Sys-cart.

Are those a standard Tanos Yellow or Orange? Or does Vantainer have a special color?

Seth

I believe it's the standard orange.  But I'm not 100% sure.  They were significantly cheaper than the tanos grey and blue though which is why I got them.

And here I though you were color matching with some of your tools.  [wink]

Id give the guys at Vantainer a call. I met them at the D&M show. They aways gave me good deals and were very easy to work with. Im sure they will make it right for you.

I did.  They said they'd give me a refund, or a replacement if I had another order.  I chose the refund. Dont think the wife would like it if I placed another $500 sustained order lol
