Leigh

In the US, they're sold under the name "Work Force" by Lowe's and Crawford by Home Depot.  They're also available on Amazon.

I just purchased 3 of the Stanley Folding saw horses..not the cheapy "H" frame ones these are the longer tops on "A" frame types.
Searched on line and found Homebase of all places had them at half price.
So far they have been great and we made a small bench to sit on top for cutting sheets etc...also the fold really small and clip together for storing in the van. Highly recommended!

I can 2nd those stanley horses. Mine ate 2 yr old now but ready to be replaced.

Been looking at the tough built saw horses. Anyine used them.

I have the toughbuilt ones, the ones with the adjustable legs.  I like them alot , bit heavy compared to the Stanley ones. I put 2 long lengths of timber between them with 4 short pieces across, it makes a sturdy workbench for cutting 8 x 4's. Very easily set up and doesn't take up space in van.

Hi Leigh

No rocking to speak off and pivot points etc seem very sturdy.
I've went through my fair share of the plastic ones and no matter how careful had problems but I suppose they are plastic.
These are plastic tops but metal legs and metal stay between legs so feel more robust.
I also like that the top is wide enough to rest short pieces of wood on for a cut by hand on only one trestle.
I might add a little sacrificial piece to the top just in case and would let me drill on top or fix my bench onto.
Having now used them for a couple of weeks, I'd pay £55 for a pair!
Go for it.....
Scott

I usually use these Metal folding trestle and similar without the upper brace. But they always rock side to side and eventually collapse. I must go through a pair every six months, have tried more expensive versions but they all seem to fail. One set i put a sheet of 25mm MDF on and bang they were instantly flat packed. My current set are showing the signs of up coming failure.

Thanks for the info on the Stanley ones I will give those a try.

The popular heavy duty sawhorses in North America are Trojans. They're heavy steel (16 lbs per set).
Looks like they'd cost 46 pounds each for the 27 inch size or 61 pounds for the 35 inch on ebay USA (willing to ship to UK)

Mine rock but only because they are a ready to get replaced. I have gang cut 22 6m 8x2 on mine several times which is more than rated for really.

I have a piece of 12mm ply on top screwed into them and then a piece of sundelia board contact adhesives onto that. Works a treat for not scratching panels and save cutting sawhorses up.

I'm gonna try the tough built next I think

I was for ever buying saw horses and got pi**ed replacing them after a few months so I decided to splash out and buy the new dewalt saw horses witch are very very good and strong. You can screw on a 4x2 (2x4) so that you don't cut into the saw horse it's self I find these great think there about €140 a set..  I don't no how to put a link up to the video but if you search you tube you see

I use the Trojan saw horses here in the US. They are very solid and in less I did something really wrong I don't think I could ever break them. They will surely last a lifetime. Heavy but solid as a rock. You can make them any size you want or put in a 2x12 to make them taller.

I can 3rd,4th,5th or wherever we`re up to,those stanley horses, especially the way they fold away so small,no chance of them falling over in the van and accidentlely getting stood on again

I bought these Stanley Fatmax earlier this year and I've really enjoyed using them. Easy to adjust in height and very sturdy.  You can insert a 2x4 in the slots and use it as either a worktable or a scaffold (it takes a weight of 1.100 kg ≈ 2.400 US pounds).

I designed and built the Tri-Horse last winter, that Tom posted the link to.

They don't fold up, but they do pack flat and are quick to put together and take apart. They can also be made in 4-legged versions out of LVL, if you want really heavy duty. I hope to load test both versions this winter. The engineer I am working with thinks we can put a truck on them.

I assume I have not posted enough here to be able to post photos or links, but you can Google basswood modular for more information or find the Basswood Artisan Carpentry Facebook page.

The photos either place will give you some good ideas for woodworking, even if you have little interest in the saw horses.

I have to second the Trojan's      I've been using several sets of them for at least 5 years now and they are still flawless,  these things will last forever..  not to mention they have absolutely zero wiggle in any direction  SOLID!!

if you buy a pair you will not regret it

John
