What would you make?

Well this is what I made!

Nothing really fancy  everything was made on site so makes it little awkward to make fancy things.   Especially because I only have a thicknesser not a surface planer so getting the stock perfectly square was out of the question  just had to hope the milling machine had made it square enough.

The first picture in reply #23   with the table with X legs  you can see a large plywood former.   Its laminated with solid oak  5mm strips 18 of them  glued up and strapped and clamped round the former.

Nice James!  That stuff must be quite heavy, though.

Yeah it is!  Thats why its bolted together so it CAN be taken apart if needed  preferred if not though.    I wanted to Peg the holes but they are big pieces but they are very solid!.  The wayne edge picnic table took 4 of use to carry a real struggle with just two of ya.

All im doing is designing and making the furniture as I please!  The clients are sanding and doing what ever needs doing once im done.

You forgot your cape when you did your superman impression  ;)

Can't they get any more bags of fire wood ?

Everything looking really nice though, I take it you was just working on an hourly rate ?

This is seriously impressive stuff.  I'm impressed.  I love all of it.  Must be great fun to essentially 'play'.  Are you doing more?

They are wanting as many things made as possible so I can stay their and just keep making stuff till the wood runs out but that will take far to long lol

Sounds like a golden job to me. Whenever you got some spare hours you can work on this.

loft conversion for me at the mo. good job the dormer is so big if not id be cooked

Went over 2 day cus they bought the hammock for it!   Oh dear!  they bought a colour full one not really wa I had in mind!  Shame really!

I was thinking something more like this----v  which has sticks in it so it keeps the hammock open which looks nicer also
[attachimg=#]

Gotta get some more clamps cus straps dont seem to pull the joints up as well as I would like cus if you look closely some of them you can slightly see open joints, even though its filled with glue expanding I would of liked it to be tight!

Im not to bothered cus its an rustic out door piece so its in keeping with the style!

Also I got the layers all flush  sending it through my thicknesser  but some have shrunk more than others since so arnt bang on flush!  Again its part of the rustic look.  I dont kno how I could prevent it in the short time we had to make it but ideally needed drying more.

Im testing the hammock out!  When swinging it does move side to side flexing but flexing inwards is very min able  and feels solid to be honest.
Not sure how to strengthen the side to side motion.  Did get everything tight but it has slightly shrunk so not as tight any more but even when it was tight it had side to side flex.
I tried my mums which is a bought hammock and that has side to side movement so I take it that might be standard.

Hey Noah!  You might want to put sides and a bottom on your ark before setting sail.  [big grin]

Well I have giving it a name! Its called the Boat Hammock!   [big grin]      I thought it looked like I was building a boat so decided to keep the theme going and got chains  and wanted the chains to dangle through adding a different touch also!  be different to all the other hammocks out der.
