What's Peter Halle's Story? (diagnosed with cancer)

You can do it Peter!
My neighbor beat pancreatic cancer.  He's been clear for 2 years.
Moder medicine is amazing.
I'm Sending One Up for ya bud.

Hero's Workshop is still climbing [big grin]

The FOG is an awesome community ... to think that hardly any of us have met F2F or spoken in RT.

Just a short update.  I got back home Sunday late afternoon after a week's worth of chemo.  All in all I feel that things went better than I had expected.  I have been able to eat anything, although some things I can't taste.  Tired - especially hands, arms, and legs.  Concentration is a challenge - especially when you have the web to satisfy a whim to chase a random thought.

I appreciate everything you Fogger's have done.  I have so many PM's and thank-yous to do in the coming days.

Yes, it is me.  I am lying in bed staring at the clock waiting for surgery tomorrow morning.  It is cancer.  It all has happened so quickly since I went to a general practitioner on August 4th.  The final diagnosis wasn't completed until last Friday about noon.

My cancer is testicular - with a twist.  The tumor is actually in my abdomen and although you really can't see a difference - and I am a skinny guy - and am 20 pounds skinnier than in any of my videos - the mass is about the size of 6 - 500 ml water bottles.  That is not a typing error.  I am extremely fortunate that my tumor is even more rare and that it is extremely fast growing - AND as such EXTREMELY CURABLE thru the use of chemo.  Because of all these situations, my age - mid 50's, luck, and probably the good karma and thoughts by friends and family, the Cancer Research Center arm of the National Institute of Health is providing the medical care to me at no cost in exchange for the rights to the tumors and the data obtained thru the surgery and treatments for their research.

That my friends is what is in my mind considered a miracle whereas at this time I am uninsured.

The chemo rounds starting in 11 days will be brutal, but thru it all I will have the FOG.

With all sincerity, thank you for your thoughts and wishes.  The FOG has seen me thru a lot in the last 5 years, and I am sure the goodwill will help get me past this obstacle also.

Peter

I wish you the best my friend!  See you next, healthy and well.  Good Luck.

Peter,

I just saw this thread.  Get well my friend.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Best regards,

Dan.

Thanks for the update, Peter.  No worries on PM's or thank you's.  Your getting better is all the thank you we need!

More prayers coming your way for awhile - Be strong!

Take care of yourself, Peter. PM's can wait...

Having said that, I really look forward to a PM from you WHEN YOU ARE ABLE. I understand personally what the hospitalization and all of the meds can do to you physically, mentally, and emotionally, so hearing from you will be an indication to me that you're feeling well enough and have the mental capacity to read through all your PM's and respond to them. That is no small task by itself.

Be strong, and be well! We're all pulling for you...

Peter, stay strong and stay positive.  My father's oncologist told us having a good attitude is very important. I'm going to briefly jump on a soap box and then just as quickly get down.  Peter was unbelievably lucky to get the NIH to fund his treatment.  Earlier this year, my father's treatment ran $250,000 over a 6 six month period before he lost his battle after only one round of chemo and radiation.  He had very advanced stage lung cancer which is almost impossible to beat.  Medical science is getting so advanced that things that routinely used to be fatal are now treatable but the resulting financial consequences due to long term income loss can be devastating.  Ask yourself a question, when was the last time you took a three year vacation?  Who among us can afford to do that?  These docs can cure us medically and health insurance can pay for the majority of the expenses but we are on our own for continuing to be able to provide for our families.  Recovering from a serious disease or accident can be a long term affair.  Go talk to your insurance broker about long term disability insurance.  Not having to worry about house or car payments or keeping the family fed and bills paid greatly enhances our ability to recover.  Nobody ever thinks anything is ever going to happen to them.

Ok.  that's it.  Looking forward to many more years of Peter's posts!

[size=14pt]Great to see you active on the FOG this morning, your time, Peter; again passing on your extensive knowledge and experience.

Today was the day when I felt like I did more than three or four months ago.  My brain fog is gone, I was able to put on a tool belt without pain, I actually ate an entire cheeseburger, and I loved seeing my Festools and using them productively.  (They have been trapped in a customer's garage on a project that got put on hold once my chemo started.

Tomorrow is a trip to do blood tests and make sure that everything is in line for round two next week.  Wednesday is back to work and completing this project this week.  Then my Festools will be in my trailer at my house so that I can organize and measure for a trailer refitting possibly.

Thanks for helping me thru this.  I may not be posting as much but I promise that I am trying to read every post like I used to do.

Rock on Foggers!
