Im looking into buying my first Festool, and found these two T12 drills on the same website listed below but why is there such a difference in price:

Title:  item#564216, Festool T12+3 Lithium Ion Drill (Price 320$)

Title:  item#564377, Festool T12+3 Lithium Ion Cordless Drill (price 420$)

Also would the T15 be worth the extra money? and does it really offer the extra power and battery life? better yet how many screws do you think the T15 would drive as opposed to the T12.

I do pretty general purpose stuff and can be pretty hard on drills. Im ??? tired of replacing drills every year or so and am hoping it will be worth the extra money to buy a high quality Festool.

First  [welcome] to FOG, you will like it here and get plenty of advise for sure.
As to the difference in the drill , the only difference I can see is the battery, I believe both have the assorted chuck sets included, again I can be wrong

564216  2.6 AH
564377  3.0 AH

Other than that the drills are the same. I can't tell you if the battery difference is worth the price difference. I do not have any T drills,, I use strictly the C version, personal preference

See my additions on the models in red.
Old model will do perfectly, nothing new which is so special, although the light is very handy these days.

The more expensive drill is the newer, updated model. The new features have been mentioned above. Personally, I don't give a hoot about the new features, I don't think they're important.

Both models are without the extra chucks (eccentric and right angle), if you really want to get the most out of your Festool drills you've got to get the extra chucks. They come in so handy.

I do think the T15 would a be a better choice. It is quite a bit more powerful than the T12 as you're going from a 10.8 volt to a 14.4 volt machine.

I've got the old model T15 and I couldn't be happier with it. Best drill I've ever had.

Festool drills are second to none..I have burned out some of the best drills so I am a trustworthy source. I am a big fan of the C-handles, if you haven't held one give it a whirl. Otherwise you just can't go wrong, they feel great in hand, and perform flawlessly.

In my personal experience the light and battery level indicator are quite useful, i would also go for the T-C15 set.
14.4 volts are medium do it all drills, a good compromise between weight and power.
The extra chucks are not just gadgets, they really add to the versatility of the drill and often save your rear end.

Ultimately you may want to get a CXS for it's light weight and handiness, if you had a 12 it would be kinda silly to have two 10.8 volts, combining the CXS with a 14.4 or 18v is ideal IMO.

Get the T15. You'll appreciate the extra power it provides.

I got the original T15 Li-on when it first come out and its still going strong.

I am also adding a vote for the 15 & definitely get the set!  With the right angle alone it's like having two drills. Also, if down the road you ever decide on another battery tool (Ti15 impact), you can buy just the bare tool (or not) but the batteries are cross compatible!  The 12 is handy for smaller drilling as I have an older T12+3 for predrilling in the shop but use the C15 in the field!

Just a note on the 12 vs. 15 ......  I have not found the 12 (at least the NiCd) to be wimpy in any way. In fact it seems more powerful than any other 12v I have used.  Not saying that the 15 wouldn't have more umph, but the 12 is no light weight contender.

That's were the typename T12+3 comes from (at least that's what they are saying).
A T12 (10,8V) performs like any other brand 12+3=15 Volt (14,4V) machine.
Most people who use the Festool drills will admit that extra power.

Even the older NiCd and NiMH models already had the extra power.
But until the Li-Ion batteries came around the extra +3V became the typename.
