What's Up with people on ebay

thats  pretty tough on the wallet, not getting any discount.

your only consolation is that tools are certainly cheaper in your neck of the woods.

i have even thought about my next holiday to ireland. coming back to oz, i will take a detour through the states so i can load up my suitcase with as many festool accessories as i can get into it!

i will have to declare the luggage obviously, i wonder if it will be hit with a customs tax. anything over $1000 gets hit with a 10% G.S..T tax here.

anybody else tried this? or is this a festool fantasy!

I have a different take on ebay.  I search festool as a hobby/pastime. Most of the time I agree people pay way too much - a couple % or less off isn't worth it at all, but if you're patient and keep checking there are deals to be found.  i was able to pick up a new 1400 a few months ago for $400.  I had an ebay coupon that got me another $50 off, so a new 1400 for $350 plus shipping, no tax.  Was it worth checking every day for a couple months?  I say yes.  But probably my best score is a barely used ct33 with industrial cleaning set, extra bags, handle, and hose garage....new in the store with tax it's almost $900 for it all - on ebay, $475, no tax no shipping.  If this makes me crazy, then call me crazy and I'll finish my festool collection off in the next couple months with a domino.  My mft3, ts55, drill and sander have all been bought in my local festool store, so it's not all ebay glory; but, if you're not in a hurry, ebay can pay off.

Not a festool fantasy on my trip to Thailand in Feb. I carried an OF1400, an MFK700, an ETS150, Kreg K3, and quite a selection of other bits and pieces including 20 Festool router bits.

j, I wanted to buy that ct33 with acc. I would have given him the 475. Unfortunately, he wouldn't ship and I'm not out that way. That seller puts things on regularly how was he to deal with? Is the ct and acc all ok?

I don't have a problem with paying retail. As i stated before i have spent a lot for new festool tools. I was trying to state the fact that people will pay over retail on ebay or close to retail then have to pay shipping on top of that.

An Most of the time they list shipping USA only. But you can buy from online retail dealer and get free shipping with most dealer. Plus you no when your warranty starts. If you buy from ebay the warranty has already started when that person bought the tool.

That if the warranty is even transferable? I couldn't find on festool website if it is or not.

An yes there is some deals on there if you keep watching.

Festool is not cheap why pay more?

Hey Holz - sorry I was the one....guess the seller wasn't kidding me when he said he had two people who would buy the vac if he'd ship.  I guess it's my lucky geographic day.  I've spoken with the seller several times on the phone, and he's meeting halfway (nice since he's 50 miles away) Saturday.  He seems like a good guy on the phone, and besides cutting the drive he's throwing in some extra bags and the wet vac stuff......When I get the vac and check it out I'll let you know how it all checks out. He does seem to have put up a lot of tools/festools lately.

As for the other comment about warranty, it's a point well taken; however, I'm buying quality German engineering with festool and I haven't nor do I expect to have to use the warranty during the warranty period.

Effective immediately, the warranty for Festool products is not limited to the original purchaser. The warranty period starts once the tool is sold from Festool or a Festool dealer and ends after 3 years, independent of who owns the tool. Anyone who has purchased a used Festool within the previous three years will be covered.

New warranty cards and the 2008 Festool Catalog will reflect the warranty text below when printed.

"Festool warrants that the specified tool will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a term of 3 years from the date of purchase."

The warranty is transferable in the U.S. but there are a couple of things to think about when buying used...

Try to get the original receipt from the seller.

Whether or not you get the original receipt, you should call Festool and tell them that you have one of their tools and who you got it from. They will update the database they keep that says you have that tool. The database tells them when it was originally sold.

I picked up the vac last night and it's flawless....the guy is really nice he's liquidating a lot of really nice tools and what I saw was in excellent shape.  I think the only festool he has left is an mft, so that might be a local only item too.....but if you see anything else from this seller I wouldn't hesitate to buy from him.
