What's your thoughts on the new CMS?

I'll take a look when I can use my 2200, Jigsaw and tracksaw in it; until then, this is just not going to cut it for that price.

I wouldn't hold my breath for the jigsaw insert - since it doesn't have any kind of above table dust collection/blower your line get covered under sawdust quickly and you need to have a mains powered jigsaw to use in the CMS-PS insert since the battery models are not compatible with the insert.

Or well, they physically attach to it and work technically, but ergonomics & safety are out of the door with having to reach under the table to the power switch on the jigsaw itself since you can't connect it to the table mains switch and at least with the barrel grip Carvex you can't fit the extractors hose properly between the table and the battery.

Both of the above could trivially be fixed by Festool making a low-height Mains-to-battery-adapter like we have on DSLR-cameras, but it hasn't seen the daylight yet even thou I've put it on the wishlist ages ago...

Reiska, I think you have all of that.  Those items are only NAINA.  i think for the rest of the world, they are OK.
Check it out.  For me, i am hoping to eliminate several routers, a couple of space hogging router tables and a portable table that are all gathering or spreading dust.  I watched the CMS slicing thru several pieces of wood with the TS 55 and also routing with not a speck of dust escaping. (Of course, I did not have my reading glasses, but quite impressive, nevertheless)  I have not seen it with the jigsaw plate/jigsaw, but i have experimented with upside down jigsawing and I find it much easier to see the line as opposed to cutting with saw on top.  A little heavy breathing (out >>> naturally) is about all it takes to keep a clear view of the line; and the line is cleared.  I have tried upside down jigsawing only with my old Milwaukee, but have not tried with the Festoy.  Back problems get in the way of that use doing by hand. I am hoping to  [censored].....

Any how, You now have no excuses  [poke] [dead horse] [popcorn]

My impression of the CMS now that I have one is, it sucks----------------------------

That I haven't had time to do anything but unbox it to make sure everything arrived safely, repack the items, unfold the legs on the stand and stack the boxes on top of it.

One of those 2 edge swords, always want to have to much work, but need time to get other things done. I have some casework coming up, so I guess I'll set it up then.

I knew I would get the CMS the first time I used it in on of the training classes, about 3 years ago.

I purchased the GE. Impressive when I first used it, not disappointed in what I have unpacked now.

I take that as HUMOR about the great dust collection or did you forget to type something?   [unsure]

Yes, I actually own the CMS-GE, the TS55, the router and the jigsaw modules. I've been reasonably happy with both the saw and router modules (TS55 and OF1400) but was floored with the unusability of the jigsaw module. Could be a symptom of having a 400 series Carvex and a battery model at that.

I'm following closely what sort of experiences people here are getting of their 420's to see if its worth ebaying my battery 400 for a corded 420 or get a used Trion for the CMS and another make for hand held use.

I presume you can use a Trion also angled in the table since its base has the angle adjustment vs. the Carvex adapter to the CMS-module is nonadjustable (its the guiderail base) so any Carvex 400/420 is limited to only square cuts in the table. Can anyone verify if this is true?

I tried to cut some trivets on mine with a thin scrolling blade upside down with the cut being a spiral of about 30cm wide winding down to a 2cm centre circle. I had to huff and puff my lungs out to keep the dust from piling on my work piece. This was with my CTL26 attached and running even though it was a squeeze to get the hose attached to the jigsaw.

Of course it would be less of a problem if you were just cutting curved long pieces that advance through the blade and away and not cut a tightening circle arc basically rotating the same piece around and around the blade like I did.

What is probably more of a Carvex 'feature' that was cumbersome upside down as well was the fact that the blade twists forward out of the guides when you have to reverse the jigsaw in tight corners to get a better angle in. This happens even when pendulum movement is set to zero. This behaviour was also reported by Art in his thread about the 420. Never noticed this happening with my old jigsaw.

For the record, I did buy the jigsaw insert to be a 'space saver scrollsaw replacement' - not for construction work so my negative experiences with this component stem from my expectations for the capabilities of the most expensive jigsaw-system money can buy in possibly a use case that is not optimally suited for a jigsaw. I did base my expectations on the performance of my old Makita 4341FCT jigsaw that I have used for a number of years successfully for this kind of tinkering hand held.

I went to a local dealer and they did not have ANY of the new Festool offerings... :(

I will have to check around or give my local rep a call for a personal demo...

Nope, did not forget type anything. The only dust it is collecting is the dust in the air landing on it. It was meant as humor.

If you look at the time I posted originally, and the time of this post, I just got home.

I'm off tomorrow, just a few things to do----I have to change the oil and filter on my truck, on the way to a job last Saturday, either a clutch or spring in the limited slip differential broke, I had to remove the rear drive shaft, lock the front hubs and drive it on the front differential, so I have to disassemble the rear differential to order the proper parts, the rear floating bearings are oil bath, that means I have to pull the hubs, pack the bearings and reseal the hubs. After that, wash the truck, clean the interior, load for Monday's job. Clean the bathrooms. Nice relaxing day off.

Hopefully there will be time to align the slider and out feed table on the CMS.

As I said, I've used the CMS. I know it is a great piece of equipment. It has been a 3 year wait, what's a few more days/weeks?

Anyone shipping saw insert to the US?

The CMS is not approved for use with any modules other than the OF Router module using the OF 1010 or OF 1400 only in the US/Canada. Any other use of the CMS will void the warranty and is not supported by Festool. This is not an approved use of the CMS per the instruction manual.
