I'm not going to ask about ALL of your resolutions, but I'm sure many of us have a weight loss goal as one of them. And  it's pretty well known that making it public and telling your family and friends helps to achieve that goal.

With that in mind, I have a goal to lose 40 pounds this year.

What's your goal?

Despite my best efforts I suspect I will be making a sustained weight gain as the year progresses.

Even the smallest Festool accessory adds weight and once you factor in the new releases this year (especially if you go for the 'full fat' set versions) then increasing weight is inevitable

Just remember a diet is what you consume, Good Luck with your diet!!!

Hi Wayne

Yep me to...I need to get rid of some more excess baggage and I'm aiming for a minimum 30 pound deduction.
I'm focused on it this year and won't crash diet as such, the whole family will eat as healthily as possible and exercise where and how we can.
Good luck on your weight loss, it's not easy but it's very satisfying seeing those scales reduce or when the compliments start coming your way.
All the best.
Scott

Yeah, no crash diets for me either. I am,however, committed to removing sugar from my diet. It is my 'kryptonite' and I need to distance myself from it - entirely.

Big changes in eating habits are on on the agenda, though. Or should I say 'On the menu'...?

[big grin]

This wasn't a new years resolution for me but I have been wanting to pull the trigger for a while on dropping 30-40 lbs.  My feet are bothering me... my arches that is.  Tried to diet but its not working for me atm, starting on the 8th I have a medically supervised weight loss program I am starting at UCI.  I did it before, 8 yrs ago, works like a champ.  I have my blood work and some other testing this morning...required for this program.  Switching my primary doctor also, getting a 2nd opinion on my feet issues.  I use to just run to manage my weight, but with my feet issues that has been impossible for the last 13 months.

Hi
Main resolution is to keep on exercising and 'hope' the weight keeps in check. For the past two months i go to the gym and swim twice a week.
Decent coffee is my weak point and really this is an area to cut back on........a bit!
Good luck with the weight loss to all of us.

Here is a way I've decided to motivate myself this year because everyone needs a little motivation once in a while. I'm going to challenge my bad habits to battle each other [eek]. I've decided to use my Festool addiction to stimulate my healthier lifestyle choices moving forward. I'm not going to make any Festool purchases until I achieve my goals. Although I only wanted to lose 25 -30lbs, I've come up with a simple formula as follows, for every  5lbs I lose I can spend $250 on a Festool item either put toward a new tool or accessory. If been kicking the idea around I need/want the Rotex 90 so that will be my goal but I hope I could use in the summer rather than next year for xmas. Stay tuned time will tell.

Cheers

I think it was last year a well known FOG member tried a reward program like you.  His plan didn't work out the great since he started buying items on his wish list in anticipation of meeting his goals.

I think think you should buy all the Festool tools and accessories you want and then you'll be too broke to afford any food.  Weight loss the faster, easier, smarter way.... [tongue]

My weight loss goal for 2015 is for Festool to drop 1 pound from the weight of the Domino 700..    [big grin]

Seriously, 40 lbs needs to be my goal this year too.  I haven't had problems with my heart yet, but don't want to create any either.  I used to keep my weight in check by cycling but my Cannondale has not seen the road due to back issues.  Now my exercise consists of walking and, during this time of year, on a treadmill due to the cold weather here (boring).  My problem is I like food about as much as Festool so it's going to be a challenge.

Good luck with your goals!

Regards,
Gerald

I know why i like metric: i'll only have to loose 20-25 kg.
It would be tasteless to say that in imperial..
Good luck to all us fatsos.

I have my eye on 20 lbs, but I'm pretty good at starving myself. I can do 1.5-2 lbs/week pretty easily. My real goal is to push my half marathon time down a few minutes, and also hit the gym for some better physical strength.

Often times those two goals don't work well together, I'm not sure which I'm more inclined to do first. I'd sacrifice a few minutes off my half marathon time to not look/feel anemic from the waist up. :)

Also, I rely pretty heavily on a calorie counter, it very quickly eliminates the guesswork as to how much you should be eating. In terms of weight control, a macro view is the simplest, just make sure your calories in < calories out. In terms of overall health though, you might want to watch what you're putting in too, not just how much.

I just lost 30 lbs in the past 6-8 months due to some biggish outdoor projects I undertook in our backyard and cutting back on meal sizes and fatty foods.  While I'm in winter hibernation now to some extent, there's still lots left to do for next year outside and hope to lose another 20 to 25 lbs.  Feel better and wife says I look better too.  Being 5'10" and creeping up to 250lbs was scaring me, so the weight loss really was needed.  Now if I could quit smoking!  [unsure]

25 pounds and I already have my wife mad at me since I dropped 4 pounds over the last 5 days.  it's nothing more than staying away from the bread plate, desert trays and generally not allowing my eyes to be bigger than my stomach.  My one weakness is good BBQ.  That's going to be tough... We have to do an annual physical for a discount on our health insurance. Since we've been doing them I've been listed as obese. They want me to loose 25 pounds.

I find their request kinda funny, I'm 6'1, weigh 195 pounds, same weight as my senior year of high school, no weight lose in my future.

I don't do the whole new years resolutions thing, but I do lay out some goals for the year. Healthwise is to continue with the gym activities and dietary changes established last year, where the weight ends up who knows, probably another 20-30 pounds less, depends on how much weight gets added from the resistance training. Just keeping it slow and steady, 3 days/week in the gym and growing our recipe list in the Paleo way of cooking. Years of neglect don't resolve overnight unfortunately.

I want to lose 20-30 lbs but I don't even want to mention the word diet. I also don't want to do it by doing an excessive amount of exercise that I couldn't maintain over a longer period. I managed to lose a stone in the last few months of 2014 by changing my eating habits to something that wasn't too hard to sustain. The biggest change was taking a lunchbox to work. It was nothing fancy, just 3 rounds of sandwiches on wholemeal bread with any filling I fancied, but I ate them slowly throughout the day. I found by doing this that most evenings when I got home I wasn't that hungry but I would still have a small meal at 6.30ish but at least half the portion size I was used to. If I didn't eat then I would be hungry by 9-10pm and end up pigging out before bedtime which I find is a bad time to load up with food.

There is an old saying about eating breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper if you want to lose weight. I'm convinced it works and have proved it for myself by eating the same amounts but reversing the order in the day when I eat it. So many of us ignore good nutrition throughout our working day when we need it and get home and eat a gutbusting meal after 8pm. I try not to eat anything after 7pm and it's easy to do if you have a good breakfast and eat sensibly during the day.

Also portion size is massively important to me. If it's on a plate I will eat it even if I'm full half way through. So I just cook smaller portions. The other thing I do is cook healthier foods and I don't get too scientific about that. I figure that if you've got to a half century and you don't know whether a doughnut is good or bad for you then you have bigger problems than needing to lose a few pounds!

Fat people often don't eat breakfast and if you go on a long journey in your car you fill up  with good fuel at the beginning not at the end. Weight loss isn't vastly different in my opinion, your car doesn't burn much fuel on tickover and neither do you.

I've also retrained myself to be disappointed in the weeks when I lose 3-4 lbs but celebrate the weeks when I lose 1 pound or less. The latter is the route to good health, the former is a pipe dream and won't last.

Hey Tom, a couple years back I dropped 40lbs. I am 5'9 and weighed 205 at the time and actually got down to 163. I'll admit I looked sick, I don't ever want to weigh that again. We do the same thing at work for our health insurance, that year I was 1lb under being obese. This past year I put on about 10lbs, however still fit in the same size jeans as the year before, so now I am overweight, when I brought it up to my doctor at my physical, he laughed and said don't even worry about that stupid chart for height and weight, its absurd!
So as long as we can loose the weight and keep it off that's a plus in my book.

I'm hoping to lose the wait for things to load caused by Time Warner Internet at our house.

We should be getting Google Fiber in a month or so. That should do it...
