Not sure if im posting this in the right area, My two year old KAPEX is due for a sharpening, and a few weeks ago when i was doing a plunge cut with my TS55 it hit something in the wood jumped up and nailed my track, took a good chunk out of it  [mad] I was so pissed at my self when that happened, not because I dinked up my blade but soiled my perfect saw guide  [scared]

Anyway, I was wondering if any of you guys knew of a place to get them sharpened locally in south jersey, i asked my woodcraft but the only guy they knew that did it closed his doors and a google search didnt yield any results. Im also always in eastern PA around philly/King Of Prussia if there is anyone on that side of the water.

This is the first time ever sharpening blades, is it worth it or should i just spend a few dollars more and pay the price for a new blade

Thanks!

I have two recommendations, but please consider that I own a large custom cabinet shop, so the needs of a DIYer will be different:

First, buy one each new blades for your TS55 and Kapex. The Fine Tooth for the TS55 is ideal for most sheet material, while the Panther blade is good for ripping solid lumber. The normal blade supplied with the Kapex is good for nearl all jobs.

Second, talk to an experience Festool dealer for grinding service recommendations. Bob Marino is an active participant on FOG and is located in New Jersey. He was one of the original Festool dealers.

Just remember, Festool blades are not the same as most saw blades, meaning the grinding service need sophisticated equipment to sharpen them to factory specification.

It is not always practical to repair a badly damaged saw blade so that it cuts as well as a sharpened undamaged blade. What could be considered cutting good enough for framing could well not be close to good enough for precise Kapex tasks. This is why you should talk to Festool experts.

I happen to be fortunate because LA Grinding is located so near to my shop in Burbank, CA. They have done my sharpening and grinding work for over 40 years. In woodworking it is very important to have a relationship of trust with your grinding service.

You're in Jersey, why not give Forrest a call..Talk to Tony Ferrato, guy is fanstastic to deal with. Not sure if they sharpen blades outside of Forrest, but see no reason why they wouldn't and if not Tony can certainly tell you where to go. He's an honest gent, and I highly doubt there a more folks in Jersey who know more about blades than Forrest.

As skids says- Forrest will resharpen saw blades.
Here's a quote from their website "The Forrest Manufacturing Sharpening Service also sharpens other types of carbide saw blades, upgrading the life and performance of any saw blade."

I've tried several places and Forrest has done the best job for me on Festool and other (e.g. Sawstop) blades.

You guys Rock! thanks! I didnt realize forrest sharpens blades, thought they just sold really nice ones  ;) Ill give them a call and see what it takes to get them shipped up there, they are close to NY and a good 2 hr drive away if i dont hit traffic.

Thanks guys!

To my knowledge, Leitz makes and will sharpen these blades.

interesting, doing a quick google search looks like they are the manufactuer of Festool Blades, ill give them a call too. If forrest can do them just as well and can guarentee that they wont screw up the festool blade (as someone mentioned) then i rather support a small business!

Any idea what leitz charges?

How about phoning Leitz and Forrest and asking for quotes on the sharpening?

Then you have the option of shipping the dull blades to them via Fed-EX Ground or UPS Ground.

Called Forrest, $34 for the Kapex blade and $23 for the TS55. They said doing Festool blades is no problem, shipping them out tomorrow! :) farrr cheaper then buying new blades

Thanks Guys!

Do these prices include return shipping?

nope....

I wait to get a bunch of blades together and send them as a batch.  The return is always FedEx, so it's about $14 within the tri-state area.  If I send-in 6 blades, it's still only about $20 for the lot...

This is a very timely thread - I was just thinking about sending my blades out to be sharpened.  What is the approximate turn-around time for Forrest's sharpening service?

they typically receive/sharpen/ship-back within 3 days.  Transit time both ways obviously varies...

If you are in the NJ area, you can drop the blades off at Tool Town on rt. 17.  They  have a 1 week turnaround, pickup/drop off from Forrest is Thursdays I believe.

If you want to call their number is 1-800-516-TOOL.

Daniel

P.S, I don't work for Tool Town, I am just friendly with the owners and they are good guys who work there.

i have also used forrest for years on all my blades including festool kapex blade and the ts55 blades they do a great job... they also sell an awesome blade for the Kapex and it works great  in fact its about time I send them all in again.

I've got to put in a shout out to Burns Tools.  Great service, reasonable cost.
I ship 6 or so blades every few months...I'm always satisfied.
Dan
