I was thinking of getting a 1010 router or maybe the 1400 I dont need advice on router choice but would like to know if I have missed something here.

http://www.festool.co.uk/images/gb_downloads/WoodFactsAutumn08.pdf

The deals on the two routers work out more expensive than if you just went in and bought the items seperately so Festool where is the deal there ?

I am going on website prices ie www.toolfest.co.uk the of 1400 and the mfs 700 = ?553.15 inc vat when bought seperately but bought together with the special offer voucher they are ?555.45 inc vat  ???

Can anyone in the UK shed light on this, only thing I would say is on the Festool vouchers it just says ?483 on the 1400 deal and doesnt state wether its plus vat.

Joiner...

I've been buying my FESTOOL stuff from www.toolsave.co.uk - either Becky or Dave. In fact, I spoke to them today.

They always seem to be able to do some form of deal - usually best to buy something else (router bits) at the same time and they should throw them in for free. They just find it REALLY hard to discount the FESTOOL stuff directly. They should also honour any "Autum Offers".

I've not looked at the deals currently on.

But *I NEVER* pay FESTOOL prices, you will always find someone who is willing to give you an additional 10 - 15% off - you've just got the be cheeky. Well, it's not being cheeky.

Paul.

p.s. got for the 1400 - it's a lovely tool. I used to have a Dewalt 625K, I sold it to fund the 1400 - different league - VERY usable.

The deals on the two routers work out more expensive than if you just went in and bought the items separately so Festool where is the deal there ?

The official Festool price of the OF1400 is 309.00 GBP, exclusive of VAT.
The official Festool price of the MFS700 is 215.00 GBP,  exclusive of VAT.
The official Festool total of both items bought separately is 524.00 GBP, exclusive of VAT
The official Festool deal for both items bought together as part of the Autumn promotion is 483.00 GBP, exclusive of VAT - a saving of 41.00 GBP over buying them separately. When 15% VAT is added, the total is ?555.45 GBP.

The Toolfest price for the OF1400 is 309.00 GBP, exclusive of VAT.
The Toolfest price for the MFS 700 is 172.00 GBP, exclusive of VAT.
The Toolfest total for both items bought separately is therefore 481.00 GBP exclusive of VAT. When 15% VAT is added, the total is ?553.15 GBP
The Toolfest price for both items bought together as part of the Autumn promotion is 483.00 GBP, exclusive of VAT - 2.00 GBP more than buying them separately. When 15% VAT is added, the total is ?555.45 GBP.

In other words, Toolfest are charging the standard price for the router, but since they are offering the MFS at 43 GBP + VAT less than the official price, when the two items are added together, the total is 2.00 GBP plus VAT less than the official price of the Autumn deal.

If you can get the two together for 481 GBP + VAT, go for it. But it's only because Toolfest are selling the MFS70 for less than the official price. I see some other UK dealers are selling the MFS700 at below the official price too, so this might mean that Festool has relaxed the rules about selling accessories at the official price, or it might just mean that some dealers are pushing the envelope to see of they can get away with it.

Cheers lads,

Do any of you have the mfs is it really worth the money ? I do have to knock up a few mdf jigs every now and then so I think and adjustable one like the mfs would be handy.

Paul, I have the Dewalt the bigger 626 one also an Elu96e must be 15 or more years old now and I had a Trend T5 (rubbish) sold it now. I looked at the 1400 and the 1010 earlier this year and the guy in the shop said I was better off getting the 1400 he said the 1010 has been around for years and thought it might be due for an upgrade. The 1400 has a lot more gadgets on it. I could really do with the 1010 as well for smaller work as the Elu is getting old now.

Joiner,

I very much like my MFS.  I purchased the MFS 400 set and a pair of 700mm extrusions and some extra V-nuts to enable joining the extrusions however I choose.  I did not really have a particular project or use in mind when I purchased the MFS in March 2008 in order to beat FestoolUSA's price increase on April 1, 2008.  But about a month ago I really appreciated having the MFS when I realized I had miscalculated the width dimension of some dovetailed drawers I had fully stained and finished to go with a cabinet that was otherwise done.  My mistake was due to not knowing the exact dimensions of the drawer slides and the door and hinges to be used for the door that covers these drawers.  The MFS allowed me to quickly set up and rout a groove in the sides of the drawers to accept the slides.  Saved me a lot of time making 4 new drawers.  Moral -- get all the hardware in hand before finalizing the design and cutting wood!!

More recently, the MFS came in very handy for creating a dozen shelves for a pair of tall bookcases.  Each wooden shelf was to have an insert of tempered glass so that the lamps in the top of the cases could illuminate several shelves down in a stack.  I made the shelves of 3/4 inch oak veneered plywood with front edging of 1" thick solid oak.  Then I used the MFS to rout a cutout region with a lip corresponding to the thickness of the glass in each shelf, much like you would do if making a router table and removable router insert plate.  I set up two MFT 800 tables with their side rails spaced apart just enough to wedge one of my shelves into the space between the MFT tops.  Then I set the MFS with angle brackets attached over the shelf to be routed, and clamped down the MFS and thus the shelf to the tops of the MFTs.  I set up a large dust collection funnel underneath the workpiece, spanning the space between the two MFTs and clamped to the bottom of the side rails of the MFTs and hooked a hose from the bottom of that funnel to my CT 22, and a second hose to the dust collection nozzle of my OF 1400 router (after rough cutting away the center area with a jigsaw.  The MFS made this very fast to setup, and very repeatable.

If I would have had my MFS earlier, I would have used it when I needed to add an extension to several interior doors.  I would have used the MFS directly or to make a template to guide my router to cut a dovetail slot in the bottom of those doors and fitted the extension with a sliding dovetail.

Others have used the MFS to route hinge mortises.  Again, the MFS could be used to make templates for hinge mortising.

I am satisfied with my MFS.

Dave R.

I could never justify buying it though a few times I had a use for it. I have so many extrusions and some very similar I could always make my own to suit my needs.

If the MFS were 50% less I would not hesitate to get one. I think for certain work it might be beneficial but for once or twice a year I could never justify it personally. What a huge set up for mortises I have many ways using jigs 80% smaller than that, it just seem cumbersome for that use to me, but that's me.

I got a reply from toolfest today saying yes I was right the deal was actually dearer than the seperate items so NO deal there but only because they are selling the MFS cheaper anyway. He also said Festool are raising their prices by 10% on the 1st of Jan so I better get in quick Do Festool know there is a worldwide recession on ?  :o >:(
