Which Festool sander for this job?

The 4 painted pillars at the front of my house need to be repainted.  I plan on removing the original paint job with sanding.  I have an RO90, but was wondering if there is another Festool sander that would be better suited for the job.  Not that I'm looking to buy more green or anything...  Thanks for your input.

I could give you a Maroon and Gold flag to go along with your new paint... ;)

Actually I had to do some sanding like that on an older Craftsman style home. The RO 90/ Ro 150 combo worked quite well. I'd start with 80 grit and go up or down from there. The home was built in 1921, so I had to go down to 24/ 36 grit in a couple of stubborn spots and work my way back up from there. The Midi vac with the HEPA filter came in handy because I am sure that some of the oldest paint had lead in it. The hot coverall suit was uncomfortable, goggles, gloves and respirator weren't exactly comfortable. Beats lead poisoning though.

Back on to the topic.

If 80 grit works, you should be able to get by with the Granat. The spots I had to go down to 40 and lower, I used Cristal and Saphir. The Saphir worked very well.

Good luck!

I am currently stripping/painting my 1929 home.

I researched paint removal, since I've got multiple layers of who knows what that is NOT easily sanded.

I stripped an entire garage with a Master heat gun.  Worked ok, but was laborious and slow.

I looked at infrared strippers, but was put off by the price.

Google around. Lots available.  The tube models look fragile. The Salamander elements appear robust.

Forget about the "legs" he includes.  Useless.

Works as advertised.  Paint comes off to bare wood with little residue, which I clean up with RO90.

No dust. Fast, cheap and complete removal.

I'm sold on this method.

Miserable job at any rate, but I've done LOTS of painting, and this is the least bad way to go for me.

Good luck!
