which Festool would you pay double for?

Well for sure, the tone of thread changed a little since OP reflected on wording of question.
Sometimes, feedback can be really helpful in clarifying what we are thinking.
So a bit late now - whilst I was having a cup of tea & biscuit - the obvious solution came to me like a bolt of lightning.

If you think a particular tool has, to you, been exceptional value - then send Festool a donation as a thank you.
Similarly, I'm sure that Festool would graciously, without doubt, consider the flip side: if my 'old design' Jacob chuck dribbled the odd bit, maybe damaging a floor, or, speared someone from scaffolding, they would, graciously, reimburse me all associated losses as a 'sorry.'

Send Festool a donation???Haha,that takes the biscuit!!!I think their would be an uncomfortable silence on the phone when trying to get some compensation for a damaged floor due to bit falling from chuck

The Domino and the MFT must be the two tools on Festool's lineup that I am most convinced are overpriced for what they do.
They do what they do VERY well and are both on my shopping list (the price is why they are "still" on the list), but I can't fathom why the MFT would have the price tag it does, nor does it quite click why the Domino would be $800 when the seemingly more complex Rotex sanders come in for much less -- and even the RO 150 is less than $600...
The clamps have me scratching my head a bit too, but I guess in the grand scheme of things they aren't TOO bad... some of it might have to do with the quantities in which they sell...

I have perhaps too many of them Festools.
If I were to single some of them out as being something special it would not be too many though:
The Domino, the OF1010, the RO90DX, the TS55 and the EHL65 Planer are all worth what I paid and then some. The Domino is quite expensive over here nowadays and paying double for it is not even on my radar screen. Not even a faint blip. The CS50 and CS70 are really nice and sound performers, I would not want to be without them - but I got the CS70 used, like new and nearly half the price - my best investment. I would have hesitated to pay full price for it with the add ons. The TS55 has some serious competition and for the most part I use a Mafell with folding rail - I pimped it out with the Festool Plug-In though.
The Festool screwdrivers are something I am losing patience with. The drill chuck is still the worst on the professional market. It really is. I even traded my C12 and C12Li with four batteries and accessories with a friends single Hitachi 14,4V - that I got him in the first place. I still keep a T15+3 (and C15Li) for on site work and I have the CXS. I enjoy the CXS but if it wasn't for the add ons I would have exchanged all my Festool drills for either Panasonic, Hitachi or back to Makita. Getting the Hitachi is a revelation: a quality chuck that never fails and a better working light. For 98% of all work it is better than any Festool drill I have and for the last 2% the add ons come in handy. Paying DOUBLE for a Festool screwdriver? Hah. I'd rather buy two from the competition and still have money left to buy a tracksaw or something...
The Festool sanders have some stiff competition with Mirka CEROS and I would probably choose Mirka for my next one.
For the most part I love my Festools, but price/performance is not always met. My C15Li had trigger creep and was sent in and was away for a full month as Festool was out of spare parts (that's saying something) and when I got it back it was worse. Now the drill would not reverse at times but keep driving the screw in - when in reversed position. Second time around it was in for a four days - which is fine, but do I trust the drill at all? No. I got replacement chucks for my old ones that kept dropping hole saws. The new ones still do. I never dropped a hole saw on any other brand's drill/screwdriver. But on Festool they still come off.
I think Festool are charging at the very maximum of how much I am willing to pay. Since they don't exceed my expectations (except for the Domino) I am not willing to pay a nickle more than what I have. If Festool prices go up further I will simply let my machines run their course and phase out Festool in favor of other brands - simple as that. I will have to keep that Domino though. [big grin]
