which new laser measure

Hi guys, question for those who have laser measure experience.
Lost my Stabila LD200/300 (whichever one it was) laser measure today while checking out a building. I think someone snatched it up right after it dropped from my belt. I spent an hour looking everywhere.
Anyway, it was a great, accurate measure, very simple, not too many buttons, etc, lots of good features. Unfortunately, it was useless outdoors. Somehow it wouldn't measure lot distance or from the street to the garage etc. I don't know if it was the sunlight or what.
So to my question ... anyone have a laser measure that also works decent outside? Measuring the length of a building or lot size, etc. I don't want one of the super complicated ones. I've done some reading but descriptions don't seem to mention/differentiate outside use.

The Stabila LD 500 will measure accurately over half a block outside. It even has a camera with a zoom so you can tell what you are targeting at that distance.

But it isn't exactly simple.

I have the bosch DLR165. It does everything I need it to do and It's simple to use. For the price you could loose a lot of them before you paid for a Leica.

I have a friend who borrowed the Bosch to measure outside and he said there was no problem.
 
I've owned two Leica's and have been really pleased with both of them. The first one was the Classic 5A. It had a built in 2x optical viewfinder for longer measurements. The optics must have included a filter as the laser was way more visible in daylight when viewed through the viewfinder. Range was 0.2 - 200m +/- 1.5mm. Outside on a sunny day 100 - 150ft was typically the limit (without a reflective target). With target I only ever tested up to 400ft. License plates make for great targets by the way.

I sold the Classic and picked up the Leica D8 8 months ago. This thing is amazing! 300ft+ in bright daylight without a target. There's a digital viewfinder now instead of an optical one. This makes a big difference in targeting at greater distances. I think the D5 includes the digital viewfinder too. The Stabila Tom mentioned appears to have the same digital viewfinder. Pretty sure its been mentioned that Leica makes these for a few other manufacturers. As complex as some of these look, they're really quite simple to use.

The Bosch might be my option. The LD500 looks awesome but far more than what I need. Besides that, considering where I use the laser measure having a $500+ tool on me is not a good idea. I had a very hard time talking myself out of one of the Leica's when I bought the Stabila. As much as I'd like one its inappropriate for my situation. I sling a big Fatmax hammer on my belt at all times just in case some _hit goes crazy in the field.
 
I forgot to mention that I have the Leica D3 and while it does a bit more, the Bosch really is just as good for everyday measurements, like the length of a room or height and or length of a suspended beam etc.

Now I'm curious... how well does the Bosch and/or Hilti do outside in daylight? Any examples of distance? I have a few guys around the office that love my D8 but they choke when I tell them what it costs. I'd love to be able to recommend an alternative.

30-35ft in the sun seems to the maximum for the Bosch. The Disto gets 225ft.+ no problem.
