I am looking to use the MFK 700 to trim laminate and edges. I would like to use the router in the Horizontal position. I have the base for it. Because of the small area for the bit to fit into I find my standard trim bits will not fit. what do you recommend? Will a straight cutting bit work?

I faced the same issue, figuring that I had "lots of bits" at home.  (all too long).  I found a short Freud bit that was meant for plowing dadoes for 1/2" plywood that worked.

If you have the money, I discovered a nice set on Bob Marino's site (and probably others) of a Festool set specifically for the MFK, plus a nice storage systainer.  Now I have the MFK bits I need, and tidy storage for all of my other router bits.

Good luck,

Brett

There are a series of bits from Festool that are meant for the MFK. I ran out of the promotional kits but the individual bits are available.

You can use a straight bit. That's why the base is 1.5 degrees.

I think the new 2009 catalog shows via a chart which bits are recommended for each Festool Router.  Any bit that is less than about 1 5/8" in overall length will work in the horizontal mode.  I had a couple of spiral straight bits that were too long at about 2" overall length.  I did find a 1/2" diameter bit with about a 1/2" cutting edge and an overall length of 1 1/2" that worked well for some testing in the end.

Best,
Todd
