Hi, I'm new here but have been a festool fan since I was about 13 ( I'm only 17 now) I'm going to be making a fitted cabinet, and need a router for cutting an MDF desk, as well as rebates for shelves, and possibly adjustable shelf holes as well as he usual roundovers etc. I was considering getting the of1010, and a 1/2 makita router, or should I get the of 1400?

Thanks in advance 😁

If you want to get one to handle a wide variety of tasks, yea Id say go with the OF 1400. You can always add the OF 1010 or OF 2200 later.

Agree with Jasck7724, especially if you're in the US.  The NA package for the OF1400 includes 1/4", 8mm, and 1/2" collets, so you're set for various bit shank diameters.  Obviously there is more power and not that much increase in weight and bulk.  Half-inch Shy has a good 2 part video on the versatility of the OF1400.

Best wishes, DrD

If budget is a concern then any used router is likely the cheapest option...
For a new router PC and deWalt/Elu, Bosch or Makita

Then finally the FT, and the other premium routers also route similarly to the other routers.

Routers are generally pigs with respect to dust in the most cases.

The OF 1400 is the workhorse on our job-sites. We have the 1010 and the 2200. I always grab the 1400. I have a Bosch 1617 dedicated to the Paulk station. The 1010 pretty much stays set up for the LR 32 setup. All easing is done with Colt or PC laminate trimmer they stay set with a 1/8" round over and a 1/16" round over. The poor 2200 is just plain heavy. If i need to turn a panel bit it is the go to. I also have a 3 hp PC bought the 2200 to replace that.

I think i may have a problem after writing all that.
