Hey Guys,

I'm getting a C18 in the mail next week and am looking to purchase a countersink with depth control. Which size is most useful? I do general woodworking with mostly drywall screws and the like.

Thanks,
Matt

I agree some smaller sizes would be very useful. For drywall screws the 3.5mm version will be ideal.  [smile]

And you can order a box of spare bits to replace when you break one or dull it. I keep some spares with me all the time with that bit - it is one of my favorites. I agree too - I wish Festool had smaller diameter drill bits available - you really need  2mm and 2.5mm sizes at a minimum, especially since size 6 and size 8 screws are used so much in NA.

Screw Size  Pilot Hole Hardwood

Size 6        2mm
Size 8        2.5mm
Size 10      3mm
Size 12      3mm/3.5mm
Size 14      3.5mm/4mm

Do you still use the countersink with the size 8 drywall screws? At least I believe the drywall screws are size 8.

Yes, it works well with #8 screws.

Snappy sells some nice CE countersink bits.
Alas without depth stop and in the following sizes:
- 7/64" (2.4 mm)
- 9/64" (2.8 mm)
- 1/8" (3.2 mm)
- 9/64" (3.6 mm)
The problem with the Festool BSTA ones is that the outer ring sometimes leave a mark on the material or just melts, not so nice.

The Snappy Centrotec items are available in a couple different sets  and a few more bits have been added since introduction. I know that Woodcraft, Festool Products, and Woodpecker's carry them. I did a little searching and haven't found any other sellers.

Yes - and they carry a depth stop now too for 3/8 and 1/2 countersink. They also have a 3/8 inch collet assembly for use with Kreg drills or other 3/8 inch shank bits.
