WHY can't we buy colored systainers in the US?

I *tried* to research this topic, but fell short of finding my answer. It seems that lots of us would like to be able to get other colors of systainer for any number of reasons. I found this on the Tanos website:

Is there a LEGAL reason why these aren't available? Or will it just take someone 'bellying up to the bar' to buy enough of them to make it worthwhile? Have any of the dealers here ever contemplated this and posted about it?

Enquiring minds want to know...

Went there before posting - it's where I got the photo. But for any of the colored ones I only see Euro sellers. Did I miss a US seller?

I can't show favoritism toward a particular dealer, hence the Google link. For me, there are two dealers in the first five results (in the US). I'm sure some forum members will help you out with some specific dealer names.

Colored systainers used to be available in numerous colors here.  I purchased quite a few.  They are available to Tanos dealers to the best of my knowledge, but I suspect that the minimum order requirements for each color and size might be the sticking point.  When I ordered the Fogtainer cases from Germany it was a very special exception that was arranged at that time for me to not have to buy full pallets of each size.  Pallet quantities varie based on systainer size, so a pallet of 1's might have twice as many as a pallet of 3's.  A lot of funds could be tied up in inventory quickly.

I do not know this to be the fact, but it is a somewhat educated guess.  For those interested in non stocked colors I would suggest that you contact a Tanos dealer and ask.  They might be able to add onto an existing order or something like that.

Yea, I've only seen anthracite as well in the US. Would be interested to know if this is a Tanos issue or a distributor issue. My guess is since they are not made here a distributor would need to shell out a big wad of cash for a warehouse full of all the various colors, sizes, latches and handles and hope to sell them.

Sorry, admittedly I haven't kept my eye on the status of Tanos distribution in the US because it's more than a full time job just keeping up with Festool.  [blink]

But, it does look like there is more limited availability than before. I do see one dealer with black TLOCs on their website, but that's it beyond the Anthracite color or Festool grey.

Shane

Have you checked Lee Valley? Enter TANOS on their US or Canadian website and a bunch will come up, mostly a light grey/white with blue T Locs, but also replacement latches in several colors, and a couple of black with yellow T Locs as well. Worth a quick look---

The only different color I see available in the US is anthracite. I think that's what wow is referring to.

Yes, that's exactly what I meant. There is a 'rainbow' of colors produced by Tanos, but all I've ever seen in person are the light gray (which I like a lot, BTW) and the anthracite. I was  curious if anyone in the US offers the other colors ... and it appears that the answer is pretty much 'no'?

Lee Valley or Woodcraft likely do or will.  One of'em, forget who, purchased Japan Woodworker.  We, along with Japan Wood Worker, were the only Tanos dealers in the states.  We had some red systainers, along with maybe blue if I recall correctly.  Pulled the plug a few years back as there isn't enough interest.

If you can get past the shipping cost they can be ordered from Europe.  I did this once and by placing a sizable order. It actually cost about the same as buying in the US. I ordered about ten and went with surface shipping.  Depends somewhat on the exchange rate too.

i haven't used this german retailer so i can't vouch for them but they appear to have the whole deal and ship to US for decent rates:

https://www.kofferfunshop.de/de/systainer/systainer-in-farbe-t-loc/leer-systainer-in-farbe/leer-systainer-in-farbe.html

between orders from woodcraft and lee valley, i have put together color assortments for differentiation (and fun [scared]) using Tanos branded grey, anthracite, and black boxes, many with different colored t locs and handles. i didn't like anthracite till i bought one and now i see it is a great color, esp with a light colored t loc. anthracite with grey loc/handle is great color setup.

i always know what is what this way, and which ones are mine if on a jobsite.

and..... so far three- count 'em- three attractive girls have inquired about what that cool looking box is for... i def got my money's worth so far!

K-119 is (almost) an Authorized Tanos Dealer!  (our first shipment is inbound, ETA 1/13)

Colored Systainers are available, but frankly we thought they would be a bit too "loud", so we opted to stock only the colored T-Loc catches.  $7.99/ea  [laughing]

sapphire blue
signal green
white
anthracite
black
carmine red
deep orange
light grey
daffodil yellow
sky blue
emerald green

We're also bringing in a bunch of Tanos-Exclusive inserts, all complementing our Festool Systainer lineup very nicely.  Of course, a couple of Tanos-Exclusive Storage Solutions, such as the SYS-Rack will be coming in too.

Stay tuned!

An assortment of t-locks seems like a good place to start. I'm curious to know if small quantity colored boxes could be added to future orders or are such things by the pallet only?

FREIGHT CONTAINERS ONLY!!  Just kidding.  Of course we can do small quantities :)

Just give me a little time to get ourselves situated here, and we'd gladly fulfill Tanos orders.  2014's gonna be an exciting one folks!

Never seen a systainer that big, does it still use a t-lock?  [big grin]

[/quote] No worries, looking forward to hear more. For what its worth, would love an orange box for my multimaster and a red box for a first aid kit. No doubt plenty of other cool ideas lurking in previous threads.
