Why I like my LR32 system so much.

Been busing trying to get my customers kitchen done as well as my real job before they get back from holiday. Got to the  corner cabinet and got the door build. Old doors were piano hinge. New doors got fitted with Blum hinges. Never had to fit this type before so it was a first. Set the LR32 guides at 12.5mm and drilled out the bamboo. Fitted hinges which were perfect. Cut a lot of cups with OF1400 into bamboo and the cutters are still sharp.

thx

Love the bamboo!  What hinges are these?

Peter

Thx Peter the hinges are Blum Clip top 60deg bifold used in conjuction with155 or 170deg hinge on adjacent side. The other thing I liked about the system isbamboo is grass and very stringy, yet I get no tearout when cutting on the edge.

Beauty... but I'm confused about something. Isn't the cup supposed to be 5 mm from the door edge in the 32 mm system? I am about to embark on the construction of 32 mm cabinets for the first time and am seeking to understand this system better.

When System 32 became a standard shortly after WWII ended, details of the drawer slides and hinges were part of that standard.

These days the original standards have been relaxed or ignored. There are many brands of Euro-style hinges and slides.

Bottom line is that it is vital to obtain and carefully study the specs of the components you will be using.

Set-back of the hinge cup holes is also a function of the door style. Are you using full over-lap? Half over-lap? Or something in between? It has been a long time since literal full-over-lap doors were common, largely because over years of use it is so hard to keep those adjusted to look neat.

One common design convention is a 3mm reveal. But others prefer a 5 or 6mm reveal. All that affects placement of the cup holes.

Many people who do not build cabinets daily find it helpful to buy installation fixtures specific to the brand and style of slides and hinges being used.
