Why no brake on US-spec TS55??

I think the lack of a 110 brake has less to do with physics than manufacturing.

I haven't compared the TS UK110 and NA models, but I did look at the parts lists for the earlier ATF.  No surprise, the electrical bits were identical, up to the mains plug.  Festool would have an interest in minimizing the production variations.

What does surprise me, given that the UK requirement for 110 on the job site is based on "safety", why are brakeless saws allowed?

Despite a (very) common misconception, 110V for site tools is not a 'requirement' - AFAIK there is no law/regulation or otherwise that says you can't use 240V. Most site managers seem to think it is a requirement, but when asked, none of them can find any evidence...

You say that Jonny and as far as I know you are right but you try finding a 240v socket when you are on a proper building site a good percentage of my work is contract work for builders and on most sites there is only 110v supply hence all my tools are 110v.

The other thing, like someone else mentioned is do you really need a brake anyway ? as when you lift the saw the blade should be safely tucked away in its housing anyway, unlike most other circular saws.

It doesn't bother me that my TS55 has no brake.

YEa but if they can get the soft start through they should be able to goet a break through.  This is a nice feature if they ever bring there retro fit table saw over.

Weird, but when fitted to their Basis / CMS table, the break on my AFT no longer functions - I guess it is because the on/off switch is blocked on and the saw is turned on and off from another switch on the table.  I suppose that on the TS it must work as I believe the legislation requiring a break has come in in Europe between the launch of the two.

Does Richard mean 'brake'?
