Why the variation in what is included with a tool?

I've noticed that depending on where you look at Festool, some have different items included with the tool.  For instance, McFeely's sells the OF1010, no mention of the edge guide, but at the Festool USA site it states that the edge guide is included.  Is this common?  I thought the packages were all the same since the price is regulated?

Steve,

There is no variation in what comes in the "scope of delivery" from any dealer. All tools are purchased from Festool USA. Perhaps each and every item may not be listed, but whatever is listed on the Festool USA web-site or catalog will be included when buying from any dealer.

Bob has the correct answer, natch, but I do not see any mention of the guide rail being included in the OF 1010 specs.

Festool could do a lot better job of listing what should and shouldn't be  in a package. My dealer was confused, for instance, over whether or not I should have gotten the guide bushing adapter with my 1010, the catalog provided no help. The UPS guy dropped on by the other day, and I'll be talking with my contact at the dealer this weekend to find out if I got charged for it.

For the record, my 1010 came with both the 488752 and the "Side stop (edge guide)" (which I don't find a part number for online), but not with the guide bushing adapter. However, it's listed as coming with that on the web site, so I guess I won't be getting billed for the package that showed up on my door step.

This been an interesting point with different dealers. I have been a dealer for close to 4 1/2 years, however never a stocking dealer. Where " without using names "  a Catalog house may be a stocking dealer. So my point being that when a dealer buys inventory to stock they get the current included accessories, but if they don't sell through their inventory they may still have old promotions in stock. With me not being a stocking dealer I didn't have to worry about those discrepancies.

With all that said good, bad or indifferent. No one is being dishonest or not clear. So like Bob says the current info is on the Festool Site.

I had emailed Steve the answer privately since this was specifically regarding the information on our website.  To better serve our customers, we have begun adding photos to the website that show the exact contents of each tool's systainer with the exception of manuals or paperwork.  I hope this information is helpful anyone who is needs it.

As a stocking dealer, we have very quick inventory turns.  So there should never be an instance where the contents as listed on the Festool website does not match what you receive from McFeely's.  One of the many advantages of stocking the products is having the ability to go grab a tool from our inventory to questions like these with absolute certainty.

Steve, thanks for bringing this to our attention.  I hope you enjoy your new router and sanders!

Shane,
Thanks for all of your help.  I noticed you're in IT, that's what I do for a large company in Iowa.

Actually, every power tool and machine company, even the yellow one, support their dealers when there is price reduction, free accessory add-on, rebate etc. When DeWalt gives a free dust hood with their planer, or Jet offers an extra set of knives with their jointer, we get the extra free goods for every tool or machine we have in stock. I've never had such a situation with Festool but I'm certain they would support their stocking dealers.
