WIA (Woodworking in America) 2014

WIA is in Winston Salem, NC September 12-14, 2014.  Lots of fine hand tools and some power tools, seminars & camaraderie.  Is anyone else planning on attending?

I'll be there. Not sure what day(s) since I'm close by (about 65 miles).

I'll be there on Thursday afternoon-Sunday morning.  I volunteered to run a camera in classes for WIA on Friday.  Should be another great time; lots of good classes and vendors.

There's going to be a tribute to Fred West at this year's conference (sadly, I won't be there).

I was asked to submit any photos of Fred I may have, and in going through them I ran across the one below at a previous WIA.

Fred was admiring a massive special edition Sauer & Steiner plane. Conrad Sauer was not interested in selling it, but at some point in time Fred finally talked him out of it.

Some of you may recognize Uncle Bob Marino looking on.

Nice picture, John!  So many happy memories were made at previous WIA events.  Fred will be greatly missed by so many who knew him there and elsewhere.

I'm going to a couple of classes Friday and may return Saturday depending on how much of the Marketplace I get to see Friday.

"The first ever Fred West Commemorative Tool Chest is in the books. Congratulations to the winner, Carl Hein of Winston Salem North Carolina. Valued at $6000, this chest full of high end hand tools was given away in memory of our dear friend Fred West. A pay it forward tribute to his friendship and generosity for all.

A special thanks to the West Family who was present to see the tool chest make it's way to a new home.
