I have clad an area of section of my house with 20mm x 95mm Iroko square edge timber. I have left a 7mm gap between each plank.
I used 51mm Paslode bradsto fix to 25mmx 50mm treated timber battens at 500mm centres.
I realise this is a bit late ( Now that the job is finished) but it has only just occured to me that the timber might start to twist and warp.
If this happens will the brads hold the timber in place or are the planks likely to move so much that they will look a "mess" in time?
(I'm a hobby DIYer by the way!!
[unsure]

Hi

Sorry but probably not.
You will also find that the brads are galvanised and likely to start staining your boards over time. Stainless steel screws are excellent for this type of job. Spax do a "facade" screw with a very small head.
Another issue to watch out for is if your 7mm joints are open without any barrier behind. If so it's likely that insects will use the void to nest etc. perhaps a breathable paper behind would be a good option.
Sorry it's not meant as criticism but hope it helps.
Good luck.

Not all brad nails are galvinized but it's the ones that are that don't rust.

They won't hold planks in place. When they warp the brads will pull through

To be honest I sort or realised what the responses would be! I must have had a brain fart when I decided to use the brads.
Never  mind, I'll use the Spax Facade screws that have been suggested ( Thanks!). I just wish I had posted this before I started the  job.
I've got another section that I'm about to start and will of course use the Spax screws throughout.
Cheers.

For info only.............. I picked up a box of Spax Facade screws today and used them for the first time and I have to say I'm impressed. They easily penetrated Iroko timber and because they have a smallish head they look quite neat when left flush with the surface.
The only downside is they are very expensive £43.00 (ish) from Screwfix for a box of 200!! :'(

Not sure if you have picked up all the screws get in touch with ASPLTD. A little while back I needed the wirox screws. Out of screwfix approximately £40 compared to £20. Website is www.aspltd.co.uk
