My question is why has it taken as long as it has? My electric tooth brush had it 4 years ago!  [eek] I'm really surprised that Apple hasn't embraced it sooner.

Sometimes I got the feeling I'm the only one who pulls the plugs of chargers i.e. when leaving the workshop.

Thing i was wondering about was does the battery have to be uncliped or do you just charge the whole drill or can you do either knowing festool probaly not even have to touch the charger  some sort of tele porter ha ha

You can put the drill/tool with installed battery - ready for work, as is - on the wireless charger.

It actually works great. If I had a work shop set up with Bosch tools it would be super handy to have the charging plate as a tool holder.

This is clunky tech. Big deal, charge a battery on a flat surface instead of a charger. I'm incredibly unimpressed!!

As said, toothbrush charging has been about in this space for years.

We should have amazing new tools that take advantage of this, like compact electric chisels that scissor/vibrate through material with no effort [eek]

Innovation in the tool industry is sadly all about baby steps and doing what the other guy does [mad] I wish someone would make a serious leap. Festool have made some good steps, but they're not blowing the industry apart.

Regarding Apple - Apple have stalled. Hey - now we've got a giant high performance iPad with a keyboard. Steve Jobs must be turning in his grave. He won't be phoning from the grave though .. his battery will have gone flat in the first 24 hours!

I haven't bought any of the wireless charging tools from Bosch but I like the concept of trickle charging on a "docking station" in the workshop and not having to remove the battery. Maybe it isn't that big of a deal but it I still like it.

I hear you on Apple though. I have never owned a PC - I was Mac from the get go. Lately I haven't been impressed with what Apple pushes. More style than innovation. Don't get me started on the Apple Watch...

When it comes to power tool innovation I think many companies are struggling to find something _really useful_ to churn out - Festool included.

Seems there are too many designers out there and less focus on practicality than innovation. Like the Carvex: TWO Systainers to hold ONE jigsaw with an abundance of accessories to fit a product that still isn't a very fine woodworking product. Overkill by design. I do prefer the Bosch GST18V Li - better ergonomics, great performance (for a jigsaw) and "no frills" such as having to remove the base plate to make an angle cut.  It is a decently sized jigsaw that shares space in a Systainer and it does the job.

One argument usually is that "we don't want to do it just as good as the competition - we want to do it better" which doesn't mean anything if you haven't eve got a product out there to compete with. Say for instance the Ti15 impact which wasn't a poor machine - but it was overdesigned and underperforming.

Just a basic Impact - NO  frills - and I think a lot of people would be happy with that addition.  It doesn't have to be "the best" - but having one in the line up would help.
